Wasn't the contact of the first Tkachuk hit primarily to the head? I'm obviously missing something because no one cares and it's not being talked about. But it looks like a bit of a head shot to me? Someone explain it to me...
Wasn't there a game last year where kassian had a couple huge hits against the flames. I think he got gio once too.
Dumba nailed backlund late in a game. Tkachuk fought him straight up. Kassian to much of a meat head to do the same. He deserves 10 games for slamming tkachuk to ice.
All of this digging and deflecting by the Edmonton media is laughable and is nothing but a sad sack attempt to get the attention away from what actually matters... the result of the game. Tkachuk played within the rules of the game, and Kassian did not. Edmonton lost a vitally important game to their biggest rival simply because that neanderthal of a player lost his temper and put his emotions above his teams success. He is apparently the "heart and soul" of that franchise - he's not sending a great message, and it explains the struggles of that franchise since his arrival despite having two of the best players on the planet on the roster.

That is what you call a pathological liar and an embarrassment to sports writing.

It also makes it twice now that the Oilers have lost meaningful games that matters to both teams, with the first one being a laugher. To be honest the 2nd game they were fortunate to be tied going into the third.
Why would he do that? Ball has already established himself as a national-broadcast quality play-caller, and is rapidly rising in the ranks of the biggest stage in the country. He is not going to stick around and do regional Flames broadcasts if given the opportunity to move more permanently to the national stage.
The question is what role he'd have with Rogers if they drop the Flames regional games? They're not going to drop Shorthouse or Quinn from the Canucks or Oilers regional broadcasts even though he's better than they are. I don't know about Randorf, but I assume they gave him a pretty good contract to jump ship from TSN.
Would they keep him on the payroll just to call the occasional Jets/Sens/Flames national game that Hughson or Randorf weren't available for? Would he want to do that?

Shoulder to shoulder. Head snaps towards Tkachuk, which it wouldn't if it was the primary point of contact.

It’s been debated ad nauseous. I don’t think the head was the primary contact at all. In fact, if it was touched at all, it’s hard to see.

It looks to me like Tkachuk hits Kassian in the shoulder and his head snaps towards Tkachuk. Had it been a headshot I think his head would have gone the other way.
I don't mind people describing it as a "predatory" hit because he was clearly targeting Kassian and leaving his defensive position to do it. I don't think it was a headshot though or even a penalty really, maybe a charge but I think that's a stretch.
Personally I love the hatred and am not really hoping for a suspension on Kassian. He lost his mind and blew the game for the team, that's enough for me.
That is amazing. Morenz last played in 1937. I don’t know when Staples was born but I think it’s safe to say he’s not that old.
He died in 1937, too, so it's not even like you could say you watched him play an alumni game. And the NHL didn't start televising games until 1952. There's maybe some archived footage of him somewhere, but certainly not 15-20 games of footage.
The guy is just a clown and a liar.

Ball already does national games. He calls games for the opening rounds of the playoffs, so I think SN would drop Quinn for him in a heartbeat. He is already ahead in the national rotation; why would they drop one of their national guys just to hold onto a totally average broadcaster like Quinn?
On the flip side, I could see Ball moving over to TSN with the possibility of also calling CFL games. He used to do BC Lions games on TSN radio before taking the Calgary Flames gig.
