Don't disagree, but I'm fearful of losing Ball/Hrudey/Campbell-Pascal.
They do an incredible job. Dont know how it works for them. Are they under contract for future seasons or are they renewed/assigned season by season? They're great pros, especially Ball. Losing them wouldnt be ideal but more importantly I'd like to see them all still have steady gigs beyond the season.
This is what im not understanding and i just heard the same take on Tim and Sid, with the thinking that Chucky not fighting leads to his own locker room now having to look over their shoulders... No one seems to realize the oilers are in no position to turn any game in to a actual war... They have one guy on the team that is there golden goose and needs to be protected at all costs, we have many ways to send a message if they decide to target other skill players
Mike Johnson intimated that if Tkachuk continued not to fight but continued to dish out massive hits, other teams would start to target Flames skilled players as a way of "raising the ante" to make Tkachuk stop hitting players
I would hope but you think he would be in consideration for bigger opportunities staying unless sportsnet is truly as no good as the oilers and just wants McDavid pompom waving cheerleaders

I get that stance...........if Tkachuk were hitting other skilled players. So Kassian's of the world are off limits for physical play now in the NHL, versus like the old days where players like that just rolled with it and stuck up for their team mates if needed?
Why would he do that? Ball has already established himself as a national-broadcast quality play-caller, and is rapidly rising in the ranks of the biggest stage in the country. He is not going to stick around and do regional Flames broadcasts if given the opportunity to move more permanently to the national stage.

at least Jeff O'Neill on Overdrive defended the hits, even though Ferraro kept comparing them to Torres' cheap hits from way back...I know we're biased (as Flames fans) but it's too much.

I have never bought into the frothing hatred of the perceived 'bias' in the media on this board.
However, when media and players are coming to the defense of Zach Kassian (of all players, lolwut?) at the expense of Matthew Tkachuk, manufacturing false narratives and comparisons, it really makes me re-evaluate my reality.
Seriously, people...

It almost seems like a lot of the national media, former players, etc. weighing in don't realize that the Flames scored the game winner on the PP that was given to Kassian. I keep seeing/hearing praise for him for standing up for himself and what not, but he cost them the game...
They just woke up Sunday morning, saw the hits and fights, and don't know the rest. If you'd rather punch a guy who hit you than win, then I'm not sure what to say...
That may have something to do with the SN highlights package only showing Oilers goals.

Then that's when Lucic comes in. It's nice to have a heavyweight around because if push comes to punch in the face we all know no one wants to fight Lucic.
If someone wants to take runs at our skilled guys because Tkachuk takes runs at Kassian then go for it, and deal with Lucic. Meanwhile Chucky is going to keep dishing out massive hits.
These hockey dinosaurs are saying you should answer the bell after a CLEAN hit? Give me a break.
Bobby Mac chimes in - fair hit... he's not especially in favor of that hit, but nothing in the rule book against it.... Mike Johnson didn't see an issue with it so long as it is within the rules.
though i disagree with one part - if they target our skilled players, why wouldn't calgary target their skill players?
14 goals...didn't you know...he is a skilled player...

Ferraro taking an anti Flames stance. I am absolutely shocked

Someone should be keeping track of all the hockey people who’s opinions clearly don’t matter any more due to their idiot responses to this situation.
None of the Edmonton media pretenders ever mattered, but there’s been some people that should have been able to take an objective view on this that they obviously have not done.

Talk about the most fragile of glass houses. If only the Oilers had a certain obvious player to target if Kassian continues to be a psychopath and tries to retaliate against the Flames skilled players...

I used to think this way but Hrudey can pound sand...he seems to change his tune a lot when it comes to the big desk on Saturday night and never has the Flames back. He tries so hard to be anti homer he ends up biased against the Flames.

No ####, can you imagine if the roles were reversed. Can you imagine if Drai kept dropping Lucic with big hits, Lucic tried to fight him and he refused.
Would the media still be saying Drai better step up or Lucic will have to start targeting McDavid with hits and that would be justified..............
