Lost in all of this is that the Flames beat the Bobblehead Night Curse.

I think the issue I have having to read all the posts picking apart the Flames after a win, is that when the Flames lose, but play a good game and maybe didn't get the result they deserved or the breaks..........all that gets said is things like "no room for moral victories", "all that matters is the result", "this is a result oriented business", "have to find a way", "not good enough".......etc...

So why only after a win, are honest comments about the game allowed, but not some honest analysis after a loss? Seems like all that counts is the result only applies if they lose, if they win it also has to be about "how they won".

You know the old adage 'never get too high, never get too low'. It applies to armchair fans as well.

But one should always brag about how many countries they've been to. That goes without saying!

I don't have a problem with honest and fair criticism, even following a win. I thought there was lots of that last night for the most part, but I also thought that some of the criticism was exaggerated to the point that it provided an inaccurate picture of the game as a whole.

Yes, the Flames were badly out chanced and outplayed in the second half of the game, and yes they surrendered far too many scoring chances overall. But this is only one side of the story. The Flames were also playing in a defensive shell after the game winning goal, and Minnesota with only one regulation win in their last four games was playing desperation hockey from that point on. Scoring effects definitely played a role.

Missing from this narrative is also how well Stalock played in last night's game. It was said that Talbot was the only reason the Flames won; but by reciprocation, Stalock is the only reason the Wild were not down by three or four by the end of the second period.

There were certainly issues last night, but also admixed with some good things that happened for the Flames. I look forward to a better performance overall tomorrow night.

If the Flames beat Edmonton tomorrow night, there's a very good chance they could go into the All-Star break leading the division.

@Montreal and @Ottawa would be inexcusable losses despite Montreal having our number recently. @Toronto will be tough but they're just as bad defensively as us so that should be a goal fest unless Rittich/Talbot and Andersen stand on top of their heads. Hopefully our offence will pickup in time

That game against Ottawa screams trap game to me. On the road, last game before a big break, taking on an easy to underestimate opponent.

Edit - And if they're like me they'll be looking forward to McGregor vs. Cerrone later that night.

I really hope the leadership group has this team dialed for the next 4 games. Get positive vibes going to the break and then really hit the ground running for the final 32 games of the season.

A lot of what was said about this team last year is they were tired at the end of the season. Here is the optimist in me thinking the reason why this team has lacked effort at points in this season is because they are preparing for this stretch drive.

Be hot going into the break and spend that time resting but also focusing on this stretch run. Last years team sputtered after the break let’s hope this years team does the opposite

It does feel like an important stretch of games:
-Enter the ASB on a high point. Don't want to feel like they need to chase a playoff spot.
-Start the post ASB on a heater. Exorcise a few demons from last year.
-Find that balance of playoff push vs. rest to avoid burnout in playoffs.
-Profit.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Personally, I found the game entertaining, despite being on the sixth day of being (more or less) flat on my back having injured myself clearing all this ^&*((*^$# snow in BC.

I thought the pace was good, the goalies excellent, the chances were a bit run-and-gun, but there are games like that - and they're often fun! This one was.

Ball and Hrudey had fun calling the game, too - Flames were a bit unlucky not to score a pile of goals more, but Minny has a goalie, too.

Looking forward now to Saturday night.

This was the problem last year. Also the designated break.

The designated break was the problem? How do you figure? There is nothing that can fix that.

Just like the first game coming out of the christmas break for the home team, coming out of the mandated break/All-star break will probably not go so well for the Flames. Double that by it being STL 2nd game after the break. STL won't even be in Vancouver long enough to get that Roxy flu since it is a back to back. Of course I hope for the win, but I am definitely tempering my expectations coming out of the break.

Not the break itself - their play following it - it disrupted a heater and they couldn't maintain their level of play leading into it. Other teams didn't suffer that fate so the Flames can deal with it too.
