If I were to ever be in a plane that got shot down, I only hope that I'm sitting in the direct impact site of the missile. I couldn't imagine the terror of those who had to sit helplessly and wait to die as the rest of the plane fell to the ground

Terrible way to go. I wonder what Iran's response will be?

Now the question is, was there an issue with the plane's transponder or with the missile battery radar. I can't imagine this is like MH17 with a bunch of untrained crews launching SAMs.

I think this as well. I want the first piece of shrapnel to go right through my head. Dying sucks, the several minutes of awareness of it happening while in freefall to your death is worse.

To be honest it reminds me of Air India where even here we tended to look on it as an Indian tragedy even though the victims where mostly Canadian

U.S. officials are confident Iran shot down a Ukrainian jetliner in the hours after the Iranian missile attack on U.S. targets earlier this week, CBS News has learned. The Ukrainian International Airlines plane crashed Wednesday soon after takeoff from Tehran's airport, killing all 176 people on board.
U.S. intelligence picked up signals of a radar being turned on, sources told CBS News. U.S. satellites also detected two surface-to-air missile launches, which happened shortly before the plane exploded, CBS News was told.
Federal officials were briefed on the intelligence Thursday, CBS News transportation Kris Van Cleave reports. A source who was in the briefing said it appears missile components were found near the crash site.

Probably with some scripted strongly worded statement about "getting answers" that no other country will take seriously for a moment.

One of the talking heads on CNN thinks the Canadian government will have a better shot at getting the black box data than some of the other countries involved.

I guess we will have to assassinate one of their military leaders and then wait for the whole thing to blow over. Not much else we can do.

This just got a whole lot more complicated, diplomatically. If true, Iran screwed up, obviously, but this also doesn't happen if Trump doesn't order the assassination of Solemani and provoke the retaliation (or charade of retaliation), which is getting a lot of criticism as well. Enter Canada, with so many citizens killed and no consular relationship with Iran since 2012, and a major ally that shares at least a part of the blame.
And you can't help feel for the Ukranians as well, in the aftermath of the Malaysian Airlines incident happening on their soil under similar circumstances, now one of their domestic aircraft meets a similar fate over Iran.

I think that's a long shot though as we no longer had/have an embassy in Tehran, IIRC?

I hope this turns into Canada and Iran talking again and maybe reopening the embassy.

More Canadians killed in this attack than on 9/11. Iran can go #### themselves.
