For all the controversy around who was starting it was not incorrect. Rob played well and had that game won.
No he didn't. If they would have started Flutie they would have had a way larger lead and not just 1 point in the 4th. That Bills defence was awesome.
Actually did you even watch the game? look at these numbers! and he fumbled twice. Sacked 6 times! I don't think Flutie was sacked 6 times in the 8-9 games he started that year.
Player Tm Cmp Att Yds TD Int Sk Yds Lng Rate
Rob Johnson BUF 10 22 131 0 0 6 34 37
That was such a crazy year. I didn't watch a single NFL game until Flutie went south and then i got Prime Ticket and got all the games. I was cheering for the Bills the entire season and never wanted a team to lose more than this playoff game.

Titans had a great defense as well. I'm not certain Flutie would have done better. Flutie lost a wildcard game the previous season having a better season. A pro bowl season.
Fact is, Johnson had the game won, other than a miracle.

Seriously did you watch that game?
10/22 for 131 yards with 6 sacks and 2 fumbles is a great game? 1 of his passes was for 37 yards... So he had 9 passes completed for 94 yards.
The year before Flutie threw for over 350 yards and lost by 7 to Dan Marino and the Dolphins.
I remember being on the Buffalo.Bills newsgroup and they were all flipping out. The best thing was the nickname they had for Wade Phillips. Son of Bum. haha

You guys are throwing out stats but what happened at the end ? Johnson with no timeouts led the Bill's down the field for a game winning FG. That's what you want in any starting QB. He cant help that the Titans won on a forward lateral.
Flutie was old and struggling. Check his numbers in Week 14, 15 and 16.

I know you like to throw out BS and misinformation all over this forum but you aren't taking this away from me! haha.
Flutie is my all time favourite athlete in any sport! Sorry Kipper.
Flutie wouldn't have needed to drive the team down in the last minute because the Bills would have been up 2 scores.
Old and struggling.... Bandana Rob was 4-7 the next year and Flutie was 4-1
Rob Johnson 175/306 2125 yards 12/7 TD/Int
Doug Flutie 132/271 1700 yards 8/3 TD/Int
But the biggest laugher Johnson was sacked 49 times in 11 games! Why the hell would you start him against a great defence like the Titans.
How old were you in 2000? 10? stop making #### up.

I just wanted to come in and say no it was a backwards lateral not a forward lateral.
This play ended up screwing the Jags most, as they only lost 3 games that year. 2 to the Titans in the regular season and to the Titans again in the AFC championship hahahah
You're making stuff up! Flutie would have won by 2 TDs.
But since I like Flutie too, you win ha!
If you like Flutie you wouldn't have said Rob played well in the Playoff game. and goto the end of the clip and see what Wade Phillips says if he would have started Doug.
Quote:
In 1999, the Buffalo Bills were putting the finishing touches on an 11-5 season with a wild-card berth. Doug Flutie, the former CFL star who had started 15 games for the Bills during that 1999 season, was one of several starters to sit out the final game of the season, with the result having no bearing on Buffalo’s playoff standing. In came Rob Johnson, who was relegated to backup status during the season despite his hefty contract. With arguably the best game of his Bills career, Johnson completed 75% of his passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns, without suffering a sack.
This is when things took a turn. Following the win, coach Wade Phillips inexplicably named Johnson the starting quarterback for the Wild Card game (despite Flutie’s 15 starts that season).
The Wild Card game
On the one hand, you could say that Johnson put the Bills in position to win the game. In the closing seconds, the team was going to squeak out a 16-15 victory, until that fateful kick return. But let’s be realistic about Johnson’s performance here: it was awful.
On Buffalo’s second drive, Johnson was sacked, fumbled, and the Titans recovered at the Buffalo 29. Stout defense, and a missed 43-yard kick, prevented any damage from that situation.
The scoring started in the second quarter, when Jevon Kearse sacked Johnson in the end zone for a safety. It was one of six times the Titans took down Johnson on the day.
The Bills’ running game, led by Antowain Smith and Sam Gash, did its part. The unit finished with 27 carries for 123 yards and two touchdowns. But Johnson’s day was awful. He was 10-of-22 for 131 yards, took six sacks, and fumbled the ball three times.

Well the Bills had one of the best defences in history that year and was #1 against the pass. They had a real good chance to beat the Rams in the Superbowl.
No playoff wins in 25 years and counting.

I will take the 49'ers to win this game. The extra week off and playing at home should b benefit them. The Vikings played well last week to eliminate the Saints, and I think they have a chance to hang around in this matchup as well if Dalvin Cook can run the ball like he did last week. But I'll go with the 49'ers to take a 24-20 win here.
#6 Tennessee at #1 Baltimore
I will take the Ravens to continue their winning ways. I do think the Titans will be able to throw the ball a bit more here than they did last week. But Baltimore has really been taking a lot of teams to the wood shed, and I think the Titans will have their troubles with Lamar Jackson. Ravens win this one 35-20.
#4 Houston at #2 Kansas City.
I don't want to jinx my team...Houston beat them earlier in the season in KC, and they have Deshaun Watson who always makes plays. I think the point spread here is waaaaay too big. I don't think Watson is losing this game by more than one score if he does lose. I do like how the Chiefs defence has evolved in the second half though, and the Chiefs should win the game.
#5 Seattle at #2 Green Bay
I will go with the Packers to pull out a 28-24 win over the Seahawks. Seattle won't be playing Josh McCown for most of this game, and although Rogers isn't what he was...he's still a big step up. Wilson will keep the Seahawks close but not enough to win in Lambeau.

So all four home teams then, huh? Really going out on a limb there!
I'll take the Vikings, Chiefs, Titans and Packers. These are generally pretty bad matchups for the home teams, it seems to me, particularly the Vikings who seem like a worst-case scenario for the 49ers. But I was 0/4 last week, so take that for what it's worth.

49ers - I don't like the Vikings travelling to the west coast but I could see a scenario where Garoppolo is careless (18 turnovers which is highest amongst all playoff QB's) with the ball.
Ravens - I expect Tannehill to have a better game but the defense is going to have to do what the Chargers did last season and come up with a defensive scheme that throws off what the Ravens have been doing on offense and nobody has had success this season to date.
Chiefs - There's always the playoff choke factor with Reid but Bill O'Brien isn't exactly a proven playoff coach. I will take the better overall offensive team in this one.
Packers - This one is a bit of a coin flip and I don't think the Packers are as good as their record but the Seahawks don't really have a running back and I don't think they would have beat the Eagles last week if Wentz played the entire game.
If you're just going to pick all the home/favoured teams I don't know why you bother posting, honestly.
