Good way of putting it. Average to below average players making 4.3m should have no value really. There isnt that much difference between Frolik and even a pto like reider at this point. That's not even mentioning the young guys knocking on the door, and all non-Edmonton teams have those. Brad did well. I just dont know if this team is 1 player with a modest cap hit away from anything. They have really shaken my confidence with their uneven play for 11 or 12 months now.

I didn't read many of those. I think 95% of posters see it for what it is. A nice move that didn't make the team worse, that freed up some cap space and gained opportunity down the road. I hope this means more trades like this. If he could get a few more picks for Jankowski and hamonic, it would be even better. I might be able to get back on board with BT if he did that. Really would help remove some of the bad vibes from moves like hamonic fantenberg, lazar, etc

He had better use it if he finds a deal that he thinks is fair and adds to the team.
He shouldn't use it if neither of those two ring true.

Skinner and Olofsson are both hurt... Frolik is probably starting out on the top line.

Exactly. Not a huge deal really. Trading an 11 minute forward on an expiring contract for a 4th isn't likely to move the needle either way. Frolik wasn't getting re-signed, and a 4th isn't a huge asset.
The deal will be a win if it enables him to do something great with the cap space. It will be a loss if we end up needing the depth (eg due to injuries) down the stretch.
Definitely less hysteria than past trade threads.

Wow, if this is what Treliving gets for Frolík with no retained salary then he could probably retain some salary and get a 2nd for Jankowski.
And definitely 1st's plus a depth D for each of Brodie & Hamonic.

Agreed. You don't trade Janko for less than a 2nd IMO. Brodie and Hamonic should each be worth a 1st or 1st+.
Treliving's got lots of assets to play around with. Expendable NHLers. Draft picks. Cap space now.
That said if Treliving trades a dman I think it would be for a forward, not for picks.
He may not be targeting rentals either. Picks for a forward in their mid 20's to add to the core makes more sense than spending picks on an older UFA. Treliving often seems to be looking to find players of an age to compliment the core.
Should be a very interesting trade deadline. Hard to imagine him doing nothing given his comments.

Everything is timing.I’m sure Burke thought they could at least get at least a second round pick for Cammalleri back in the day.

Yes, the additional picks would be used as currency at the draft to add a forward to the core...
Like the Hamilton and Hamonic trades (1st & two 2nd's, or similar) but for a younger right winger or centre this time around.

I will be shocked if Treliving gets a 2nd round pick, much less more, for a guy with zero goals, 1 assist and minus 12 through 34 games. To go along with a good number of healthy scratches.
Jankowski is worth nowhere near a second IMO.

IMO Treliving should be looking for another guy in need of a change of scenery for Jankowski.
There are tons of candidates around the league and I'm sure other teams would view Jankowski as a guy with the potential to rebound. You might even be able to get one of these guys plus a low pick.
I can see any of the following guys as targets:
- Evan Rodrigues, Sabres
- Michael Dal Colle, Islanders
- Brendan Perlini, Red Wings
- Nic Petan, Maple Leafs
- Devin Shore, Ducks
- Drake Caggiula, Blackhawks

Reminds me of Curtis Lazar when he had that horrific year in Ottawa. If only there was a GM out there willing to give a second round pick for a guy like tha — oh wait nevermind...

Jankowski makes most sense to a non-cap team (most likely for a rental)...competitive teams don't have the luxury of paying a fringe reclamation player 1.7M. DET, OTT, LAK, NJ, etc. still need to ice teams with 3rd and 4th line C's...while his offensive production may not be great, he is at least competent enough to take some of the tougher minutes, so a rebuilding team can shelter their youngest guys more.
Of course it isn't too hard to find other vets to take that role, but Janko is cheap and at least has the potential to be a late bloomer who becomes part of a 'finished' rebuild.

What Jankowski needs is playing time in Stockton, waive him because the only return will be another player that shouldn't be in the league, if someone else wants a project so be it, if not maybe he can build his game again in the minors.

He also has that Oiler stink still on him. We already have too many ex oilers on the team as is.

Hopefully if Frolik gets a bunch of ice time and the points start coming, no one here will complain, because he’d never be getting those minutes here.
