Overall it wasn't a bad signing as he was fairly productive in the first few seasons and had solid chemistry with Backlund. His game started to slide a couple of years ago and he didn't handle it well with the agent going public. I wish him the best in Buffalo as maybe with a fresh start he can play well enough down the stretch to earn himself one more multiseason contract.

So the question is what does Treliving do with the cap space. Loading up to give this core another chance I imagine.

Well, they're not moving a core piece until the off season. And it's his job to try and make the team better. It's not like there isnt more expiring cap space he can free up. Hes late doing the things he should have accomplished in the offseason.
I feel like his deadline moves start tonight and end a week before the actual deadline. Giving the team time to ramp up.

I would imagine his goal is still the same - To upgrade our a top six with a star forward, while dealing from defense.
All this does is give huge flexibility to make the right deal instead of needing every single penny to balance out in a deal, as most GM's are handcuffed with these days in trades.
I can't wait to see what happens now.

I believe in the Jays.
|
This is a poor move unless that cap space is immediately utilized (and they don't waste it on an inferior player). So I guess we'll see.

So if that cap space helps us bring in a top 6 scoring forward in a trade before the deadline then this was a poor move because we didn't do something as soon as we got it.

If the Flames hold off on adding a player for, say, another month, they'll actually be able to add a more expensive player than Frolik because cap space is calculated on a daily basis. So it might actually be more beneficial for them to wait a teeny bit longer.

Not poor at all, young player gets to play full time now, also a pick in a deep draft.

The big questions are the expiring contracts on the back end. If you move either of Brodie or Hamonic you now have a ton of space to acquire a player or two with term.
Are we going to see a lot of picks come in and out of the organization by the deadline?

Absolutely Kyle Palmieri would be at the very top of my list but that's just me

I dont know. But it makes me think of a player like Sami Vatanen from NJ. Could be a way to make a big trade with NJ and add a more offensive rhd. Could pair well with fellow Finn Valimaki

Right team I think. Different players though. I think NJ want to keep him around.

Bump it between 5 and 8 if you move a player in said trade.

In my NHL BaP career Frolik just signed with Buffalo as a free agent last night. It was a sign.

I like it. A 4th for no salary retention is good value, there's already been problems fitting guys into the lineup, and Frolik can get himself more ice time in a contract year.
Good luck Frolik! I was pro trading him for a while but don't mistake that for running him out of town, he was a great signing it was just time to move on.
