Haytons helmet thing isnt the end of the world. It is rude though.

I do appreciate when the team representing me and the place I live show respect even in bad times. But I dont think Hayton was aware of what he was doing. Just emotionally drained and stunned I think. A simple sorry, wont happen again would suffice.

No need to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

Funny how everyone else managed to show respect to the anthem, dammage, except for the captain. There's virtually zero chance that the "he wasn't aware" excuse is legitimate.

Agreed with the first part though. Canada is basically the NY Yankees of international hockey, they need to take their medicine when they get beat. International sports should be about respecting each other's countries.

I totally agree anthems in Pro Sports are unnecessary and singing anthems prior to games are stupid not the anthem itself is stupid.

No need to make a mountain out of a mole hill.
Stripping him of captaincy from a temporary team would seem to be making a foot hit out of a foot hill though, and an appropriate response.

Just wondering, what is a mountain in your mind? I don't think removing him from the team is necessary, I don't even think removing his captaincy is necessary. However, I do think he needs to recognize what he has done and apologize to Russian team, or apologize in general.

Agreed, and that's exactly what happened.

Well, you want to character assassinate a teenager for not removing his helmet, go right ahead. I said what I felt on the situation. You feel strongly about what happened. No problem.

Excessive IMO, the apology is fine. Like other has said, Russian have done similar. Doubt there were apologies attached.

And if you want to white knight for someone who damn well knew better, I'm just going to keep rolling my eyes at your excuses.

He shouldn't have done it, he knows it and apologized....time to move on.

Much bigger issues for the team to address.

Wow.

Every team in the pool is 1 and 1, and with goal differential Canada is actually in last place.

Yikes

I might be mistaken but isn't Canada one of the tallest and heaviest teams in the tournament?

They played a heavy game against the Americans so I'm not sure if it was a size and strength thing against the Russians.

Goal differential might be pretty inconsequential at the end of the day, as head to head is the first tie breaker.

If Canada wins their last two, and Russia loses to the US, Canada finishes first.

Have to agree on this, are they even tested at a junior tournament? In the “Icurus” documentary on Russian doping the show indicated that some of their atheletes started doping in their teens.

All IIHF athletes are tested at international tournaments.

Really unfair to paint these kids with that brush. Many of them play in North America and are subject to the same rules and testing that all "our" guys are. Should we be thinking the same about them?

Malkin? Ovechkin? Anyone with a Russian passport? If not...why not?

I want to know scores in the other games.

Maybe it’s just me.

So are we cheering for the U.S. today?

I can’t bring myself to do that.

Dale Hunter, he’s possibly the worst coach (outside of Tim.Hunter) I can think of for an international tournament.
