I keep saying they are only a good team, not great, not elite, not scary to go into their bldg to play etc.
If they make the playoffs it will be barely as other teams are as good or better than them this year.
Tre needs to get some better players if we want a real run for the cup as even our better players are really not in the top of elite players. If little or nothing is done enjoy what we have had where you win some and lose some and maybe squeak in to the playoffs and get 1 round.

This is not 1 bad game.
This is a team that has played below playoff hockey all year.
Now, there is plenty of time to right the ship, but let’s not pretend it’s one bad game.
It’s been a mediocre season to date.

Sure but a lot of that differential and mediocre season that you’re referring to was when the team was plagued with someone. Coach change happened and a weight seemed to be lifted. The team has played a lot different than October and November and denying that or calling them the same team would be foolish
Today was their worst game since the coaching change and it’s not even close.
If they have one stinker every 14-15 games, so be it. That doesn’t ruin a season.

The goal differential is +4 since Ward took over. They’re not as bad as tonight’s game reflects, but they’re not as good as their 7 game winning streak reflects either. They look like a playoff team that will likely get a 3rd in division to wild card playoff spot. The key will be what they look like the last few weeks heading into the playoffs.

Cross country? The flight is just a little over 2 hours of actual flight time.
A lot of coaches say their is an advantage to being the road team in a game before the holiday break.
Yeah back to backs are tough, and this one was worse than most, but this is being made out as if they had to walk there. It would have been nice to see some fight but whatever, maybe the next game is when the Flames overcome adversity.

Agreed. Too much made of it for sure. I am curious though if there’s ever been a longer B2B in terms of distance travelled. I’m sure there has been another gross one but I’m curious where Dallas-Minny would rank.

I keep watching them play, and I keep going back in my head to a chemistry issue. On the breakouts and line rushes none of the lines seem like they're on the same page at all, and too many times we're seeing these weird 1 on 3 rushes.

There have been a lot of crazy scores/games tonight
Flames weren't good but this is not a great game/day to evaluate based on many things
I mean the Caps allowed 7 (but didn't give up lol) and the Devils scored 7
Oilers lost, Yotes lost, Knights losing

Yeah I don’t get all the tantrums. I am pretty sure we have seen the Flames have Saturday / Sunday games 23 hours apart and flown to Edmonton or Vancouver.
I was really not enjoying watching Minnesota. It reminded me of several years of, well ... watching Minnesota. A snooze fest. The game plan of putting the opponent and fans to sleep worked. No joke, I’m sure you saw the kid behind Ward with the head in parent’s lap.
The difference was instead of springing Gaborik for the breakaway, they caught the napping Flames with two passes from behind the net. Bloody awful

Carolina allows 8 goals against
Caps allow 7
Devil put up 7
Panthers lose 6-1
Bleh. Write off of a day. Figures that players are going to be human and look past games on the last day before break.

The Flames do not lack dynamic scorers. The Flames lack dynamic scorers who are willing to battle every night.

Well the stats for the game have the Flames out-hitting them.
Which serves to illustrate both the point that counting hits is a subjective exercise and the point that out-hitting doesn't equal winning.
The people on this site that are looking for reasons to justify their belief that the Flames are a bad (mediocre) team are as prone to grasp at straws as the people on this site who are trying to justify that the Flames are good (contender).
The middle of the NHL is a big volatile place. Lots of room to win or lose on any given night. There are 4-5 really good teams and 4-5 bad teams. Everyone else is just trying to get to the dance.
I just don't get the wild mood swings around here.

Roughly 245 gate to gate, not counting commute to and from the airports and wait time.
Advantages on road games prior to holidays is true, but when they say that it's generally not on the second night of a back to back like tonight. When one team is rested and one team is tired, there are obvious advantages. You think too much is being made if it? I never heard the excuse from players or coaches.

This is something for which stats exist.
Wonder if they support the hypothesis.

They do, check the tired/rested posts in the Oilers thread. This is why Flames fans complain about the tired team and backup goalie on b2b games.

Still though, 26 teams played today, almost the entire league. All of them scored at least a goal......except the Flames.
That trend will prove costly me thinks. There’s an element of luck involved no doubt but a good team doesn’t struggle to score this much. Maybe we aren’t a top team or good team, but surely we’re better than this. I’ll chalk this game up to lame scheduling, tired legs, and the Holiday season. But this team is going to have get down to business and get it done here or we’ll see the continuing cycle of playoffs - no playoffs.
Honestly not even mad, legit disappointed.

They are not driving to the airport, going through security and waiting at their gate. It is just over 2 hours of flying time (852 miles) depending on conditions, not cross country as some have said.
No players or coaches used it as an excuse for the media, only fans. I’m not buying the “mind was willing but the body was weak” excuse personally. That doesn’t account for laying an egg.

Im surprised so many are defending absolutely not showing up. Back to back whatever, that effort was disappointing. Its not like they battled a bit but ran out of gas they took the day off.
But as mentioned, win on Friday and all is forgiven!

This is a pretty good post. We are seeing some good things but not on a consistent bases.
This team has go through a change coaches and adjustments. Some nights they have an identity other nights not as much. Definitely we need to get these guys firing on all cylinders. I think the wild was ready to pounce on a tired team. How to get consistency from the whole team is something the coaches have to figure out.
