This doesn't make sense. NJD doesn't need RHS RD and technically have too many of them. They need LHS dmen.
If the rumors are true and Treliving was focused on offering a hockey deal over futures, I think one of the biggest issues is that most of our young assets that make sense require extensions very soon (Jankowski, Mangiapane, Kylington, Brodie etc.) Bennett has another season before an extension is required as well.
Quite a few GM seemingly don't really enjoy the contract negotiation process, so I could potentially see that have being the tie breaker in Arizona's favour even if the Flames package was very enticing.

Aside from the main reason that Taylor Hall is not a good fit, the Flames are barely having on to a playoff position. Not a time to trade futures away, unless they run the team like Ottawa. I seem to remember Ottawa trading futures for Duchene and then starting a rebuild a year later.

I am going to be v pissed when we are fighting the coyotes for a playoff spot at the end of the season. I can already feel it happening.

yes because it would be really awful trying to fit another ppg forward into the top 6 of a team with streaky scoring. Really a difficulty for our coaching staff and a good reason not to do it.
If you think we are like Ottawa then we should be talking about trading johnny and mony for good returns and tanking.
I am not ready to give up on this core, and we are wasting precious time remaining on their value contracts. Now was exactly the time to give it a shot when a superstar player was actually available for futures.
Sucks to suck.

A little over 2 years ago Ottawa pushed the eventual cup winners to game 7 of the Conf. Finals.
Turns out that was mostly a lightning-in-bottle situation, and the drop-off to reality was dramatic. Not totally dissimilar to the last 12 months in Calgary...
Of course there are tons of differences, too - but, the cautionary tale of trading away unprotected 1sts is 100% valid

I think he will go to the team that he thinks gives him the best chance to win while paying him fair market value for a top line winger (8-9M 7 year deal).
I think there will be teams other than the Flames that will be able to offer that.
If there is any truth to the rumblings Hall would like to play here then I do think the Flames should consider moving a guy like Gaudreau for some high end futures and then bring Hall in with that cap space.
Flames could net a very high end prospect or top 10 pick + for Johnny

If say Columbus comes in and offers him the $12 million they offered Panarin, it would be hard to turn down

Yes, totally dissimilar actually. The Flames are nothing like Ottawa.
