Great first, with so-so results. Should have buried more of those. Same with the chances in the third.

They seem to get down on themselves when they have a lacking-in-scoring (enough) period where they dominate. Gotta let it go and grind it out. They haven't figured that out yet it seems.

Reffing was poor, but not the reason for the loss.

You don’t have to be on the ice to take an interference penalty. It’s right there in the rule book.

You do have to be on the ice to hold Kylington's stick for an extended period, late in the third, stopping him from regaining the zone. He even threw his hands up in the air, looking for the call from the ref, three steps away.

The refs need to forget when in the game a penalty might occur, and just call the penalty.

These last two losses suck but at least they were both to eastern teams so we don't lose any ground.

Flames should have traded for Chandler Stephenson. Vegas got him for nothing. Size, speed and hands. Would have fit well on the 2nd line vs. playing Mangipane in a role he isn't suited for.

Looks like we need another shake up.

Let's all start combing social media. Backlund keeps swearing using the word fan on his twitter, maybe we can work up some outrage?

You’d take a 6 goal 10 point Mangiapane off a line for a 6 goal 9 point Stephenson?

He was tho. He was the guy that got on and jumped back off. Instead of a too many man call they called it interference. He was on just long enough to be considered interference between the puck and the Pittsburgh player but didn't qualify for to many men because he or the guy subbing touched the puck.

Thing with the NHL now is that it’s such a tight league that you really need to bury your chances when you get your opportunities, because you’re not going to be able to run over a team for 60 minutes both nights.

Against both Carolina and Pittsburgh the first periods were easily 2 of the best periods of hockey they have played this season. And they came out of it with 1 goal, and a bunch of highlight reel saves by the other goalie.

Then when the other team got their chance they capitalized on their chances, and our goalies have been outplayed.

It sucks but it’s nothing to get overly concerned about. If they keep coming out and dominating the first like that they will win more than they lose for sure.

Yeah I have to agree. Jarry was good but all he had to do to make most of his saves was be in position as the Flames shot a lot of pucks right at him or missed the net. This Flames team is terrible when it comes to making goaltenders work for their saves while Rittich most nights has to make several spectacular saves. I just don't think there's enough finishers on this team and Backlund is trending in the wrong direction and it's killing any line he's placed on.

We seem to turn any goalie into a "hot" one more often than not.

One thing I worry about with the Flames is we seem to hold onto guys past their value or due date (Iggy). If we hang onto Backlund too long we might diminish some good returns or key additions that could help the team stay competitive. We have a couple other players that might fit that mold.

This has definitely been a problem with Treliving in that he's had issues gauging when players are near a steep decline. He definitely will have some hard decisions this offseason. It's probably the offseason he will be able to fetch the best return for Gaudreau and maybe the last opportunity to get out of Backlund's contract as he's going to be 31 in March and it's safe to say he best days are behind him and he could be close to going the route of Glencross, Brouwer and Neal with his game falling off a cliff.

Pulling the goalie again right after you've given up an ENG is one of my biggest pet peeves about modern coaches. It is such a dumb, pointless move. All you ever do is take an already demoralized team and send them out to give up another, pointless, goal against. Every single time.

I'd be interested to know if a team has ever successfully tied up a game where they have already allowed an empty net goal, then pulled the goalie again after. I don't think I've ever seen it.
