Has a good Stanley Cup run with NJ
Kovalchuk was damn good in his prime and in a HHOF where players like Dave Andreychuk make it, Kovy will get voted in eventually.
In the game or two that I've seen, he still has the skill and speed to be an effective offensive player. Put him on a good team where he's motivated and you'll see the difference. The Oilers could use him

Do yourself a favour and compare his career numbers to Andreychuk...
1638 games
640 goals
698 assists.
Kovalchuk would have to play for 6 more seasons to come close.
In a HHOF where Fleury isn’t in it, hell will freeze over before Kovalchuk is in.

The reference to bad HOF inclusions is Clark Gillies. 697 points. 319 goals. Playing wing with two of the greatest players ever. IN a high scoring era.

I doubt Kovalchuk gets in, personally.

Has there been a team worse at managing the cap than LA in recent memory. All those buy outs. Dustin Brown and Quick next

Rieder - Bennett - Kovalchuk as a 4th line?

Me too. Even if you think his stats are good enough, politically he's a difficult choice. It's not the NHL HOF, but with the exception of women, or men that played all or most of their career elsewhere and were considered all world, like Tretiak, you have to have spent pretty much 100% of your career in the NHL. The voters don't seem to like guys who bolted.

Not so much a downgrade but just a completely different player. Can you trust him to be a two way player at all? Is he just a PP specialist?
I just don't think he's an effective NHLer at all. And he's slow. This team doesn't need to get slower.

So he was actually 20 when he was drafted? I don’t know if I believe that, you’d think NHL tans would have been aware of that.

That’s how you end up with him taking his ball and going home, like he repeatedly does.

Less so this year obviously, but Frolik is plug and play on almost any line, and he won't hurt you.
Kovalchuk is good for one thing only and he's not very good at that any more. Plus I really doubt he's motivated. He seems to want to be gifted a Cup.

Going from basement to playoffs is pretty motivating for most players.

Documents say he is 36, so he would be 38 if we could cut his leg off and count the rings.

Andreychuk might be the worst player in the hhof. Stats compiler with a long career and good totals put up in high scoring times. He can't lace Kovalchuk's skates IMO.
It's Kovalchuk's own fault for leaving to Russia that he probably won't see the hall but I doubt he gives a crap because he's gotta be a top five all time earner after the tax free mega millions he made playing over there.
