Final Fantasy X wasn't particularly good. Even FFXII was superior. If you want a JRPG for PS2, play Suidoken III. There's not even a comparison. It's in a different league.

There's also Persona 4, though I never played it myself. Aside from that, Shadow of the Colossus and MGS2/3 are still worth playing, and the X-Men Legends games are fun.

... Looking back on it, that was just not a great generation for console gaming, was it?

ffx was awesome

great soundtrack, pretty decent characters(outside of the infamous awful laughing scene), good world building, great combat system, great story

ffiix zodiac age is good but ffiix ps2 is a slow plodding mess thats impossible to recommend

agree to disagree i suppose, but i have heard amazing things about suikoden 2

I think it was pretty great actually...

GTAIII / Vice City / San Andreas
Metal Gear Solid 2 / 3
Resident Evil 4
Ratchet and Clank 1-3
Jak 1 -3
Gran Turismo 3 / 4
Devil May Cry 1 / 3
God of War 1 / 2
Prince of Persia Trilogy
Splinter Cell Trilogy
Final Fantasy X / XII
Kingdom Hearts 1 / 2
Shadow of the Colossus
Twisted Metal Black
Silent Hill 2
Sly 1 - 3
Onimusha 1 - 3
Timesplitters 2 / 3
Soul Calibur 2 / 3

And that's just PS2/multi-platform... if we add Xbox and Gamecube exclusives in...

Halo 1 / 2
Star Wars: KOTOR 1/ 2
Ninja Gaiden
Fable
Jade Empire
Metroid Prime 1 / 2
Zelda: Wind Waker and Twilight Princess
Eternal Darkness
Smash Bros. Melee
Pikmin 1 / 2
Star Wars Rogue Leader
F-Zero GX
Animal Crossing
Paper Mario 2

...and many more I'm forgetting.

Burnout 3: Takedown
So fun, great tunes, I spent a lot of time on that game. Takedowns are so much fun, and it has a very "one more race" feel.

Bully
GTA in a prep school - fun game to mess around in

Tony Hawk 3
If there is one type of game I miss, it is the old school Tony Hawk games. Can't get anywhere near that experience in current games

Gran Turismo 4
Worth getting, but if you have 3, play that one (both were good)

GTA Vice City/San Andreas
Vice city is silly fun, San Andreas is GTA taken to the next level. I like the newer GTA games too, but the series peaked that generation

Overall, the PS2 was awesome - a lot of series peaked in that generation

PS2 was also great for quite a few horror games. The horror genre has been very meh ever since.

Dance Dance Revolution was also fun if you could get your hands on a decent foam mat/metal mat which kept its shape and were more reliable/slid less than those crappy plastic folding mats. But I don't think that's up OP's alley. DDR wasn't really a thing after the PS2.

Katamari was awesome. Just pure weirdness.

It holds up really well, too. I still prefer We Love Katamari (also on PS2) over the original, but they're both great games.

Tomb Raider series (mostly just the first 3).

You know....I *think* I might have some PS2 games in my basement. Over the next couple of days I'll venture down to see if I can find them among the mess of junk my wife has accumulated. I'll post if I find anything and what it is and you're welcome to all/some of it!

My copy of Gran Turismo 4 arrived in the mail today, perfect timing since I just started Xmas break and am off until January 6. I've only had a few chances to use the PS2 since I hooked it up a week or two ago. I'm waiting for a memory card to arrive soon so don't really want to get very far into any games yet because I can't save them. I also ordered a set of component cables which are supposed to really improve the picture quality.

I can’t remember, is Tony Hawk 2 on the PS2? Still my fave from the series.

PS1 actually -- though it was later brought to Dreamcast which is largely considered the best version of it.

I was watching some YouTube reviews of PS2 games and the Tiger Woods ones look pretty good. So did the soccer games (even though I'm not really a fan).
