This is true, but that was clearly idiotic by Minnesota, and they followed up by firing their GM.

I would 100% prefer a player with term, but most of those will come at a higher price tag.

Another factor to consider with Hall: in his MVP season, he was top 5 in powerplay points league-wide, on a top-10 powerplay, coached by Geoff Ward. Makes me wonder if there's a fit there where adding Hall gives us an elite powerplay instead of the average-to-below-average we're used to.

100% Freudian slip.
I actually have a dentist appointment tomorrow and I suffer from a great deal of dentist anxiety.

On the other hand, I don’t think he’s precisely what they need, and I’ve never been a fan of his overall game. I think he’s evolved in NJ but I don’t watch them closely enough to make a firm assessment of that.
So it comes down to acquisition cost. I would be totally comfortable moving players like Kylington and Sam as the key parts of a deal.
I would prefer not to deal the 1st for this year, Valimaki, or Dube.
This is pretty much exactly how I feel. If Hall were an RW, I would be prepared to throw almost anything at the deal. However, being an LW, the position they are strongest at, makes it tougher to want to pay up for him.

The thing is though, the perfect fit rarely comes along just when you need it to. As you say, Hall's presence would strengthen every line, and the Flames would have 2 complete top lines.

So it all comes down to acquisition cost, and will they be able to extend him? I am also good with a deal structured around Bennett (because Hall takes his place) and Kylington (because Hanifin, Andersson and Valimaki).

I would not be happy to see Dube, Andersson, Valimaki or our 1st moved. And not thrilled about Mangiapane either.

This isn’t something you need to worry about. He’s not going to Calgary

How is this for a list of trade-able assets?

2020 2nd-7th draft picks
2021 1st - 7th draft picks
Anyone currently playing in Stockton but most notably:
Pospisil, Phillips and Gawdin
Any non pro prospect but most notably:
Emilio-Pettersen, Pelletier, Nikolaev and Zavgorodniy
Flames roster players such as*:
Kylington, Mangiapane, Bennett, Brodie, and Hamonic

Untouchables**:
The obvious core guys, Dube, Valimaki and the 2020 1st

* I tried not to include wishful thinking, or players with no value.
** Judging by what I have read over the last few days.

I have very mixed feelings about acquiring Hall. The one thing I feel good about is that the Flames should have a very good book on Hall (both on the ice and off the ice) via Ward. I assume Ward will have some valuable insights into what kind of a fit Hall would be in the room and on the ice.

That list of “touchables” gets you Taylor Chorney not Hall.

Flames miss out on Stone and Hall. Both end up in our division. Ho hum. Maybe Treliving can snag him as a UFA.

Well, makes the Yotes a lot better obviously... still not sure it's the right move for a playoff run, but they have time to add other playoff experience before the deadline I suppose.

Hall is not the difference between the Flames going deep in the playoffs or not. There are other critical positions they need to address before they even think about adding that one final piece.

Center depth is the biggest issue. You simply cannot win the cup with Monahan and Backlund as your top 6 centres. And needless to say RW is a mess.

Well there aren’t any top centers available so this was the next best thing.

Same thing could be said about the coyotes, but they got a lot better by adding Hall

Yeah but you don't just buy something because what you need isn't there. Especially when that something is something we already have a good amount of.

How? Monahan, Backlund, Lindholm, Ryan, Jankowski, Bennett - we are plenty deep at centre. On top of that, there are no centres available and ones that would be considered an upgrade on what we have come on the market like...once a decade?

Losing out on Hall just continues Treliving’s cold streak of not being able to improve this team in any meaningful way.

That’s true, and that’s why I continue beating the drum that we should be acquiring future assets and re-tooling the core. The current track is leading nowhere, and there are simply no available options left to address it after Kadri fell through.

Lindholm is a center.

RW is our biggest issue.

There is not a legit #1 center in that bunch. Lots of really good 2nd and 3rd line talent though. That’s the problem.
