On a pre-signed contract with Hall , who would NJ want, one for one, with Calgary?
Would you do it?

I guess I kind of trust that Treliving has done his investigating on this. Obviously that would be great.

This isn't saying much but I wonder what the price of a star rental is this year? These things change in accordance with supply and demand and the flavor of the week, but with Hall not doing well this year, playing uninspired, and a UFA, makes me wonder how a team could justify giving up a 1st or a top prospect when there's little indication he'd turn it around this year. Without a doubt I'd give him a 5 year deal in the off-season, but as a rental unless I'm going all in and have a boatload of assets, there's no chance I'm giving up my first or a high end talent prospect unless he signs an extension.

I would target Palmieri before Hall.

Valimaki is going to be exempt likely. He will only have 2 years of pro experience if he doesn't play this year. Believe there was a precedent last time around for an exception there. If he comes back this year and plays >10 flames are in trouble.
And Giordano getting exposed would be ridiculous. Franchise legend 24 months removed from winning the Norris and still by far the best dman on the team and biggest minute eater. Even if seattle just picked him and flipped him for futures they would easily land a 1st +

Agreed. Bruins protected a 40 year old Chara.
Our Giordano is as valuable to our club as big Z, to his.

I thought with the amount of games he played last year that Valimaki is not expansion draft eligible?
Expansion draft is a season and a half away not sure a 38 year old Gio with one year left on his deal is getting a 1st+ nor worth using a valuable protection spot on considering he could be one year from retiring and if he wants another contract he can come back and end his career here. No guarantee that is who Seattle takes anyway. Based on the current flames roster Kylington makes more sense a year and a half from now

Last time I went to bed hearing vague rumbles from somebody dubiously connected that the Flames were close to landing a prized winger, I woke up to a James Neal signing.

Look on the bright side. After he has a dismal year we can trade him to the Oilers for RNH.

If he’s still playing at a decent level, he would easily fetch a 1st + from a contender.

Same, but he has a modified NTC, one year left at a great price, and I don’t see any reason why NJ would want to move on from him yet.

Totally agree, he would almost be the perfect acquisition though.

The only way an acquisition of Hall works is if the Flames have a deal in their back pocket to move Gaudreau. There just isn't enough room on the team for three high end LWs, especially when we have needs elsewhere. If the Flames make a deal for Hall, and can bring back other assets in a deal for Gaudreau that address the larger needs, then maybe I could get on board with Hall. Otherwise, not a chance. Palmieri is a better fit for this team and probably comes a lot cheaper.

Both Gaudreau and Tkachuk are productive on their off wing so what you are saying won't stop the Flames from getting Hall if they wanted to. They are also not trading Gaudreau.

Trading gaudreau to get hall is going backwards (,or at best sideways)
Given what has been rumored, I would be fine doing a package around frolik (cap), kylington (high potential young d), parsons (high potential g) and a pick for hall. Then see if mangi or Bennett could go 1-1 or with a small add for a top 4 rhd

Maybe the loss yesterday was a blessing in disguise... toomany times this team has been shutout and can use anotger gamebreaker.. trading for him now will also not really disrupt the lockerroom as the win streak is over.

I could definitely see that happening in the summer. One run with them together and they move Johnny in the summer for a higher return then they pay to acquire Hall.
