The rumour is that it stopped after an incident with Peters in the dressing room before a morning skate:

Honestly, as a 7th, you can do way way worse. He's a little frustrating and slow sometimes but I find he doesn't make too many glaring mistakes.

About Stone, how about that DOUBLE SHIFT 5 on 3
The balls for Ward to leave them out
The intelligence to put out a great 3some to kill it
The intelligence and skill for those 3 to have had more than enough energy to lineup after the whistle again
Ward isn't afraid to let players have huge moments

It did stop. It did come back after Ward took over. Coincidence or smoke?
For all we know the players stopped it themselves late last year and Ward, as a tactic to lighten the atmosphere, told them they should do it again.

I actually just logged in to comment on how nice it was to have Stone available for that 5–on-3. With Hamonic in the box, there really isn’t an obvious choice to put alongside Gio without Stone. I was also quite surprised that Ward didn’t change the line halfway through when there was a whistle, but then realized that I’m not sure what other two D he would put out there to replace them.
This is the kind of extra D rotation that I can get on board with. Heavy and boring, vs quick and exciting. None of this ‘goon in the back pocket’ extra player. Gives the coach a chance to match up against teams.

Just caught the post-game comments by the Leaf coach giving zero credit to the opposition for their win. Didn't even mention the name of the opposition. So that means the Laffs didn't even play against anyone...and they still lost? Ha. Ha. Ha.
