Between this and yesterday's footage of a rare shark... I think we can safely say the US military is engaged in some sort of covert operation to develop frickin' sharks with frickin' laser beams for tactical deployment soon.

The military's new weapon is a ray gun that shoots a beam that makes people feel as if they will catch fire.
We've been using that technology on Oiler fans since we acquired Kipper. hehe

Because heaven forbid they let knowledge like that get public...
That's cool though.

Heh - forget a new Jumbotron - we clearly need one of these for the home of "Flames" ..
"Flames Goal! Scored by #12......JAROOOOOOOOOOOME IGINLAAAA!!!!!"
(Jumbotron cuts to random Oiler Fan running around and shrieking after being zapped)
Instead of the "Smooch Cam" the "Stop Drop and Roll" Cam....
In all seriousness... the last quote gives a glimpse as to why a weapon like this is a great idea in practice, but would be a bad idea given the possible abuses.....
Airman Blaine Pernell, 22, said he could have used the system during his four tours in Iraq, where he manned watchtowers around a base near Kirkuk. He said Iraqis constantly pulled up and faked car problems so they could scout out U.S. forces."All we could do is watch them," he said. But if they had the ray gun, troops "could have dispersed them."
A Little open to abuse perhaps? Zapping anyone that looks at you funny? Al-Jazeera will love this. Video from this'll make those UCLA Taser videos look like Big Chief Jerky Bloopers.

I like the video clip showing the guys pretending to be rioting but not showing them getting zapped. 'Here are some guys acting like they're rioting, but we're not going to show them getting zapped we just want them to make asses of themselves on tv.'

If using a cell phone or living under power lines or even suntanning isn't harmless, I can't imagine that getting zapped with a ray gun is totally harmless.

Boy that weapon would probably take several hours in heating up my breakfeast burrito.
I prefer the humiliating type of non lethal weapons that cause people to lose control of thier bladders and bowels so that you can stand over thier bodies and laugh at thier situation.
Good times.

Those frequencies work at energies which are damaging to the body, or your body acts as a perfect load. However, becasue they are lower power (ie. cell phones) they don't have an effect.
At 95GHz, it heats up water and particles in the air, but it dissapates so fast that it wouldn't penetrate the skin or prove to be damaging to the body.

I could do that, but it might damage other parts of your body.

I think the American military will stick with white phosphorus to "heat up" bodies in "eye-raq". http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/4417024.stm
BTW, the Italian documentary mentioned by BBC can be found around the web, but it is quite graphic.
