I don't see how she would be affected any differently with her shirt on or off. It's still a tough scene.

It is my opinion that she will be fine with it. As Firely pointed out, I don't know her... no one here does. It is my best guess.

As another aside, I also recall some hubbub when a teenage Leelee Sobieski appeared seductively in her underwear in Eyes Wide Shut.

I guess we'll have to wait until the movie comes out to see all the moral outrage among the masses. Personally, I don't see it coming, but it should be interesting to see the fallout. I predict: nothing. This is probably the most I'll ever hear about this movie or scene.

Ironically, by arguing about this topic so long, we're providing a lot of advertisement for this movie. Hope everyone knows that...

Are you saying we need naked 12 year old girls to get a point across?

I think A Time to Kill did a very good job with the rape scene. Very, very emotional.

The screenplay for "Hounddog" - a dark story of abuse, violence and Elvis Presley adulation in the rural South, written and directed by Deborah Kampmeier - calls for Fanning's character to be raped in one explicit scene and to appear naked or clad only in "underpants" in several other horrifying moments
so she's naked several times.

To dig this old thread back up. The movie "Hounddog" has now played at the Sundance festival.

There is scene in which Fanning's character is raped but it the scene plays out only showing Fanning's face and hand during the attack. So as it stands when all is said and done the scene is shocking but not explicit and apparently the movie is not very good.

The truth is, most directors would do this kind of scene for a shock factor. Who would want to watch that movie anyway? It was bound to fail...nobody gives a rats ass about artistic merit, nobody wants to be associated with that garbage. I think Fanning is a good child actor, but when you hear some of her interviews, she's talks a bit too big for her britches. And what the hell were her parents thinking when they allowed her to do one of those scenes?

Not everybody watches movies to escape and to have a laugh. Some people do very much treat it as an important art form and want to make and view movies that are thought provoking, touch on taboo subjects and cause discussion. To each their own.

Well... I guess all that moral outrage was certainly justified in the end after all...

I hear there is no actual visible nudity in the scene. It's mostly her hands, face, and the dark.

As I have been reading all these replies I feel the need to burst some bubbles – Mostly the bubbles of you new dads.
Girls are getting there periods at 9 and 10 years old – and trust me most of them know a lot more about sex than you would think.

Which begs the question, why did she have to film it nude in the first place?

she didn't, she was wearing a body suit and it was all carefully choreographed on a closed set with a child psychologist seeing her before and after the scene.

after lots of the investors pulled their cash, i'm sure the studio/producers/director felt the pressure to minimize the scene.

sheesh.

Let's put it in perspective...it's a child simulating sex to an adult population. I'm not trying to act all high and mighty here, but everyone should see something wrong with that - **** artistic merit or whatever those artsy bums call it.
