Believe it or not, Hanifin is only 22 and was better than Gardiner at his age. Not only that, but Gardiner is a one dimensional defenseman.

Gardiner is a far more flawed defenseman than Hanifin. I mean you accuse me of being a homer but it seems like you see flaws in Flames and ignore them in non-Flames. You're the anti-homer I guess?

Your comment was a joke. Pretending other fans have a better idea about Flames players and Hurricanes players.
Get this bud, fans aren't authorities on anything. Especially fans who don't watch the teams in question.

And the Flames used Fox to turn him and two other assets into core players. That trade made the Flames a better team, and it does not go through unless one of Fox, Valimaki or Andersson is included.

And we traded the player that had no intention of signing with EITHER team. We used Fox as a blue chip trading piece, the Canes had to use his value as salvaging whatever they could. Luckily, they are getting a 2nd round pick rather than a third because of the likely outcome of 30 games played by Fox this season.

How do you get away with treating people the way you do? You are easily one of the most abrasive and arrogant people on this board.

I just like the fact that we drafted Fox. Sure, the College guys have a lot more sway about where they play, etc. but at least we can take out of this the knowledge that our system is scouting these guys rather well.

Wow, just goes to show that we really can't have nice things. Just devolves into bravado and schlong swinging.
Congrats participants in the let's run a nice thread into the ground game.
Flames perspective: Lindholm and Hanifin>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 3 assets not long for the team.
Just be freaking happy for once.

Actually Lindholm plays a significant portion of his time in the middle. He also takes a significant number of face offs (equal to Monahan since he joined the team).
This seems to be an issue of just looking at the opening lineup and thinking “that’s it! that’s what’s gonna be out there all game no matter what!”
If you watch the games, you see how often he’s in the middle.

They drafted him and got good value in a trade for him. I still love this trade for the Flames. 2 core pieces that were each a 5th overall pick during our rebuilding years for a guy we picked in the 5th round in 2010, a guy we picked in the 3rd round in 2016, and the 15th, 45th, and 52nd picks in the 2015 draft.

I just love Lindholm's contract.
Say what you will about the trade, but that extension was magnificent.

Yep that was a huge win by Brad. It took balls, as a more reserved GM likely would have gone with a short deal to see how he played here first, considering his spotty production in Carolina. A decision that would have likely resulted in a $7.5-9mil AAV contract a couple years later.
Difficult and great signing.

He's a RW who takes faceoffs on his strong side to help Monahan. Monahan is the center on that line. Lindholm and monahan don't play C at the same time.

Yup, 100% Locke. Wouldn't change it, and in the future still go for that type of draft pick. Have to be more careful in the early rounds, but 3rd and beyond. Go for talent, worry about the rest later.

Geoff Ward seems to be using Lindholm as a centre.

Well, they do switch, but even aside from that, Lindholm also plays without Monahan. They aren’t attached at the hip.
That includes the PK, which Monahan does not participate in, and accounts for 10% of Lindholm’s total time on ice.
It’s just bizarre that people think the guy who is currently the centre on our #1 line is not actually a centre.

Yup...and they do switch during play quite often. Moreso last season than this one, but it happens all the time.
This whole debate just shows how badly the club needs a decent 2-way RHS to be added. Lindholm is the best fit out of necessity and it obviously worked well for a season, but there is a huge hole in this line up when he is patrolling the wing instead of centering his own line.
A guy like Connor Brown in Ottawa would be the Perfect fit on ice IMO.
