Or we just enjoy life, don't need or want religion to do so, derive pleasure from simple acts and are capable of recognizing the beauty of life without needing placation of greater meaning while accepting our mortality and the brevity with which we exist.

Definitely Nietzsche. It's life very similar to a cow, which is finally possible and not too too bad.

Another one: Western-style breakfast is sweet, fatty, and mostly disgusting. Everytime I go to Asia, I wish we had an easier time importing their breakfasts of savoury fish soups and rice cakes.

Doing so while slurping on a slurpee, eating a bag of chips and a handful of of five-cent candies is pretty much the best. Lake community people do that after work on a Wednesday. Sometimes we'll grab a boat and paddle over to the island and have a sandwich for supper. Last winter we ice fished on the lake in the winter. Sometimes my son and I will throw sticks in the water at the top of the waterfall and watch them as they try to make their way down the hill and into the lake. No barking dogs or dog crap, only a limited amount of people (residents) are allowed in so it's never too busy...I mean, it doesn't get better than that.

You just outlined all the problems. The limited amount of people while nice is essentially classist and in general I don’t like that so while I’m relaxing start to think about how building a fence around a space to exclude me from interacting with parts of society I don’t like is morally wrong.
The water fall loses all its magic when you realize a bull dozer put a bunch of rocks in and the water source is a pump recirculating the water so the fecal matter won’t anaerobically decompose. As opposed to a real waterfall where you contemplate millions of years of time passing and etching every part of what you see and it challenges your insignificance in the world.
So while you enjoy you boat onto the Island the alternative is to go into fish creek hike through the water to a spot where you can no longer tell you are in the city and look at the tall sandy banks and contemplate how the last few floods changed this land scape.
A lake community is like frozen yoghurt. Mankind’s achievement of making something that isn’t as good as the original just so they can have more

I've heard from many Asians who say they wished they had an easier time importing bacon and eggs into Asia

Meh, don't hate the player; hate the game. I personally don't have a problem with buying into a little club. The cost of the lake facility in lake communities is shared by so many thousands of people that you don't pay a material premium to get into them versus average home prices in Calgary. If you can afford a home in Calgary, you can afford a home in a lake community in Calgary. They're accessible to virtually everyone.
If you're talking about classist wastes of space, let's talk about private golf courses. Use way more space, way worse for the environment, accessible to way fewer people, and cost way more money to access.

Wow, what a shame for you that you can't appreciate things made by man. Ever been to Europe? The cathedrals are breathtaking. Ever been in a castle? Mind blowing. Even Banff Springs Hotel is something to behold if you want something to appreciate closer to home.

I'm not sure if you know this, but you can enjoy man-made things and natural beauty.

You're in Vancouver, no? There should be a plethora of restaurants catering to these tastes.

Define "Asia". I don't even remember seeing rice cakes, let alone people regularly eating them for breakfast.

Haha, sorry. Rice balls/onigiri. Just like what you can grab at any Japanese convenience store.
Basically just the availability of savoury food 24 hours a day for all meals.

Lol at people arguing that the SE is the best place to live. Any discussion of best quadrant is between NW and SW. All the SE has is whether it sucks as bad as the NE.

Who wants to start their day with bits of seaweed in their teeth? Khao jee are much better than onigiri.

I grew up in the SE and SW. Meh to both, but honestly, prefer the SE. Except for the lakes which are just giant festering garbage pits filled with people who think that it is some kind of status symbol to have a private community lake (Silver).
