Yeah, Ullmark made a great effort. He made a bunch of good saves, two off Monahan at least.

Hard to say what the biggest cause was, but pretty much everyone looked better. Was it getting rid of Peters? A 4 day break to heal some injuries? Line juggling? Practice time? Who knows.

Liked the blender. Pretty much every forward line looked good. Backlund-Monahan looks like a keeper, as they cover each other's weaknesses nicely.

Only thing strategically I didn't like: Hanifin-Hamonic pair still doesn't work this year for whatever reason. Only guys on the team under 50% in any possession stat.

The splits vs. Eichel were pretty jarring.
Giordano-Brodie: 8:22 TOI, 65% Corsi, 74% xGF
Hanifin-Hamonic: 4:45 TOI, 11% Corsi, 4% xGF
Kylington-Andersson: 2:07 TOI, 100% Corsi, 100% xGF

Eichel's line got dominated by our 1st and 3rd D pairs, and he did all of his damage against Hamonic basically. I think it's time for Andersson to move into the top 4 permanently.

Lucic is one of the more underrated players in the league if you read some of the stuff about him. I've read plenty people saying Lucic is terrible and isn't even an AHL player, and how they wouldn't take Lucic on their team for free, which is completely ridiculous and just bandwagon mentality. It's clear people don't watch the games, and even not, his fancy stats are good. Lucic is a solid NHL player. Maybe not the player he once was, but most definitely a useful guy in your bottom 6 at least.

That would have been.... really bad.

Didn’t see much of the game but really happy to hear how well they played. And as long we have the guy, just real happy to see Lucic score.

IMO Hanifin made the mistakes.

Well I'll be damned, we get LA on the second in two nights after they play in Edmonton. That's a rare sight.

From the condensed game I watched, this is the best I've seen the Flames play since possibly late October.

I wasn’t really a fan of the trade but Lucic hasn’t been horrific at all.

He’s strong on the puck, works hard, and provides a physical presence. It’s too bad that his hands seem to be completely shot though.

And on that topic of that trade.

At 5v5:

Lucic: 1 goal, 3 assists, 68 hits, -3, 52% Corsi for, 51% xGF

The Real Steal: 4 goals, 1 assist, 37 hits, -8, 50% Corsi For, 49% xGF

But Neal can keep scoring tap ins on the PP because of McDavid and Drai we can get that extra draft pick.

And I hope we draft the next Johny Gaudreau or TJ Brodie with it.

It's a conditional 3rd rounder if you were thinking it was a 4th. Johnny and Brodie were both 4th round picks.

True, he wasn't great. But IMO Hamonic screening was a big reason for Eichel's goal and between him and Jankowski someone should've gotten a stick on the pass for McCabe's. For whatever reason, they've both been poor when deployed together, but I thought Hanifin had been pretty good recently with Andersson. Less an indictment of either individual and more that the combo doesn't work.

It's not everyday you can give up a powerplay goal and still improve your PK. Especially when your PK was already at 85%.
