There is nothing eye opening about a Sun poll.

There was a lot more people with doubts about Aliu, his timeline and reasoning for coming forward than I was expecting. Sure the majority were against Peters, but surely you noticed a change in the aura of CP.
That's pretty powerful.

i guess the interesting things are:
1. will we see peters coach high level hockey again - anywhere (remember even graham james found places to coach over the years)
2. will there be any additional fallout as a result of this issue - i.e. otehr coaches, gm's, players
3. what will the future coaches look like - you would have to think they will be far more cerebral versus the keenan type
|
I wouldn't be surprised if this leads to. NHL giving guidelines on appropriate conduct for coaches.employed through the NHL. May also lead to changes in coaching contracts that will protect the leagues interests.

Let's be clear here: Bill Peters is responsible for what has happened to Bill Peters. He sealed his own fate on this.
This whole fiasco has had me thinking a lot recently about remorse and recompense. A pretty big deal was made by Aliu when he told his story about the lack of any apology from Peters. Then again, attention was drawn to his own claim in the letter he wrote to Treliving that he apologized immediately for his actions.
Beyond the fact that these two claims don't really align, I am wondering how much it would have mattered. I mean, of course, if Peters was remorseful and had changed and grown since the incident I would expect an apology. But I would also expect a hell of a lot more. I don't think for something like this it is enough to merely say "I'm sorry." Yeah, Bill Peters can come back from this, and I hope he does so, but it's going to take time and a tonne of growth. If he ever gets another opportunity to coach professional hockey again, it should only happen after he has demonstrated an unequivocal and obvious change in his character.
Sometimes, an apology is just not even close to enough.

Honestly, its not like I'm waiting with baited breath for the rest of this season. Its been an unmitigated disaster thus far.
This team has been doing a complete swan-dive into the pavement.
Its no secret that I believe in heavy cynicism most of the time but the disaster that was last season's dichotomy between the regular season and playoff tragedy really took a lot of the shine off the potential for this season and, well, the team and organization arent exactly doing their best to instil any reasons for optimism.
Actually, its like they're actively working at doing the opposite.

I suppose that’s true, but even the letter did come off as insincere when he refused to acknowledge Akim, and it was openly made public as opposed to the letter actually being sent to Treliving. It was quite obvious it was less of an apology and more of a PR action to save his reputation.
I figured more Calgarians saw through that, even if they were Sun readers

I just wonder if the fans would be as unforgiving of Peter's remarks, if the team had continued to play as well as they did before the break last year?
I hope this whole incident is a one off affair, and doesn't lead to something that may upset or adversely affect the coach / player / team dynamic.
I'm sad for both Peters and his family.
