I agree he is struggling but to call him a black hole and praise Mangi is silly
Johnny is a black hole and is not engaged.
Over the last 9 games he has 3 assists and is -12.
Mangiapane has been very engaged and has played a lot better.

Also I don't know what Conroy's coaching acumen is, but he seems like a guy who you would want to play hard for.
Conroy is going to not be behind the bench again and then joke at every opportunity for the rest of his days about being undefeated in his coaching career.

It took a few games for Toronto to shake off the Babcock effect, and the players who were not performing to their ability to kick into gear. I expect Calgary to look like a different team in a week or two.

Well they need to get him going...Mangi on the top line isn't leading the team to the playoffs

Lindholm has shown up to play for all but like 4-5 games in that losing streak.
I like that man.
I don't know why Dronny and Sean can't make a couple clutch plays around the net over the course of 60+ minutes. Lindy's literally done it all on his own.
In honor of Mike Commodore (and a push message I just got from Yahoo): Bill Peters #PackYour****

Here's a highlight of Flames interim coach Geoff Ward from his days with the Bruins.

No Peters mean we lose 5-0
Quote:
So are the Flames distracted? Or are they trying so hard to ignore this circus that we get their 200% effort?
I'm gonna guess the Sabres are more motivated after the Dahlin hit and the Flames are a little more on the distracted end, we see things a little tilted towards Buffalo. 3-2 Sabres.
Quote:
As awful a situation as this Bill Peters thing is right now, this is the time for the Sabres to take advantage of a dysfunctional Flames team. Get out there early and make a statement.
This is Calgary's 4th road game in a row. They might be tired and ready to go home. Throw in their head coach is involved in some heavy allegations and isn't heading practice or the game might just send them off the rails.
Quote:
Agree, we need to take advantage of the mess they’re in. I also wouldn’t mind snatching some of their players away in a trade this weekend.

I'm just here so I don't get fined.

I'll bet you didn't know PK is short for pretty krappy, and PP is pretty poopy, which is why our 'special' teams belong sittin' in the toilet.
Is he really an idiot or is he just trolling us all?

Botts big head is like a sponge. He's vicariously assuming any brain damage suffered by Dahlin for the good of the team.
Quote:
Was he serious? Botterill: "I appreciate where our team toughness has been"
What team is he watching? I know he can’t and shouldn’t throw them under the bus. But he could’ve at least acknowledged the need for more grit at times.
Quote:
WTF? It's been missing-in-action, Botts. Does he watch the games?
Quote:
Don't see any reason that we don't get slapped all aound the rink again tonight. Calgary has issues. Reason has it that they'll be looking for an outlet for their frustrations. Based on how much our boys bitched out last game, it seems Calgary came to the right place.
Maybe they use it for motivation to actually start playing like grown ass men. Let's hope so because if not, this team is done.
Quote:
‘team toughness’ is incredibly vague. there certainly hasn’t been ‘player toughness’ during the games. regardless, it’s just meaningless bromides, platitudes and drivel to look enthusiastic towards the public while trying to protect his own backside.
Quote:
Jason Botterill is absolutely delusional.
Quote:
When Botts was hired I didn’t like the hire. I still don’t, but at least in the beginning my dislike came with an understanding that he has a different viewpoint and opinion. I was able to respect that. Hey I don’t know everything and I’ve been wrong before and will be wrong again.
the longer he’s been here, I have really started to hate him and my confidence in the Sabres failing has grown. As much as Murray came off with a sense of cockiness/obscure confidence, Botterill and his holier than thou attitude,as GM, comes off like he thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room, while not showing one instance where’s he outsmarted anybody.
He can take his toughness comment and shove it up his ***. You don’t come back from the Swedish trip and come out of the game vs Tampa with as little push back as they did and come to the media and fans with that comment.

Great job by McCabe starting that whole mess by throwing the puck deeper into his own end from the corner
Quote:
OK I'm glad I wasn't the only one who saw that. Like...what is he thinking?
Quote:
Calgary dumps the puck in but has to tag up--and they have guys deep, so it takes some time. Sabres leave the puck in the corner ALL ALONE and Calgary almost gets to it first AFTER tagging up. And then it takes another minute before they can get the puck out.
Unbelievable.

McCabe is so bad it kills me.

I'm just sick of losing games because the other goalie is way better than ours. Goaltending is such a huge position and we haven't had a goalie the team has confidence in since Miller
Quote:
Having a Vezina caliber goaltender will transform the way an entire team plays. It's huge. They become more aggressive and start believing in themselves. I've seen it with Hasek, Miller, Lundmark, Quick, and Binnington. You do need other improvements but goaltending can hide a lot of problems allow you to build a team in a winning environment. It's hard to develop players and get them to be aggressive when every other mistake ends up in their net. The Sabres have shootophobia because if they miss the net it's a turnover going the other way. They're passing up good scoring chances by taking "safe" shots into the goalie's chest and over passing. I think a lot of that has to do with lack of confidence in the goaltending.

hahahahahahahahahahaha....we're so putrid. I hate this team so much. Risto is the biggest loser in the league.

First Risto mishandles the pass from Ullmark to give it to Calgary, then AWOL on D. Takes a team to lose, but his mistakes are glaring at times.

As soon as I saw Risto was going to begin overtime, I looked over at my wife and said, we're going to lose. She said, hasn't he gotten better? Calgary scored, and I just looked over at her.
Quote:
I wonder.... did Sam actually pass to Linus or was he thinking someone would be there at the point? Seemed like an automatic move on his part.
As soon as Risto bobbled it I though uh oh...... Sam and Jack go to the bench, Mojo and ?? come on..... Risto still behind the play, takes wrong path to the puck...... Linus falls flat on his stomach as Tkachuk walks out from behind the goal line.......
Add it all up.......... THAT'S ABSOLUTELY DUMB ASS HOCKEY.

]I'm really liking the chemistry between Lindholm and Tkachuk. Maybe they should start playing on the same line together [/B]as Backlund has been wasting so many setups from Tkachuk. Rittich deserves the credit for this one as the Flames would have lost by two or more had a goaltender been merely average tonight.
I agree and also have noticed some chemistry between Tkachuk and Mangiapane..
If we could build a trade around Jankowski and one of our UFA dmen for a top 6 C/W I think most of our problems would be solved. It shouldnt be far fetched considering Jankowski and Brodie nearly netted us Kadri. I know things may be different now in terms of their value, so perhaps more needs to be added, but I feel like something needs to happen to give our forwards a boost.
I feel like in the past, Gaudreau had at least 1 or 2 flashes of absolute brilliance in a game, even when struggling. That hasn't been the case this year.
He just doesn't look as shifty. Could it be that his quick burst speed isn't as explosive as before? He's not able to create that litte bit of separation with his 2-3 stride acceleration.

I think it's all mental with Gaudreau. He doesn't strike me as the toughest player mentally, unlike Tkachuk or Giordano. I still think Gaudreau needs maturing in that regard. There's no way he's lost a step at his age. He put up 99 points last season and didn't sustain a career-changing injury.

I just think he’s having a bad year, as most great players do. Reminds me of Claude Giroux. Consistent improvement from years 1-4 (27 -> 47 -> 76 -> 93 points). Regressed slightly over the next couple of years and then really dropped off for a couple of years after that (seasons of 67 and 58 points) before a big rebound back to seasons of 102 and 85 points. Great players aren’t immune to regression. I suspect that’s all this is, an off year.
