Jays sign Tomo Ohka.
Not 100% sure on the money figures, but it is likely 1.5 million base + incentives pushing upwards of 3 million (total contract value).
Pretty decent deal, better than the arms we had.

Liked the last two additions Thompson and now Ohka, throw a pile of darts and hope one sticks. Puts less pressure on one of the young guys being forced into the rotation.

Halladay
Burnett
Chachin
Thompson
Ohka
That's actually a pretty decent rotation if Thompson and Ohka bounce back (that's obviously a huge if). Regardless, I feel a little more confident with two veterans in the fold - the ideal situation is obviously for McGowan to find his command and lock down the #5 spot (forcing Ohka and Thompson to battle for a starting job) but at least the Jays have some depth to work with. Both Thompson and Ohka are potential 10+ game winners if healthy.

I like the deal. I'd probably like any deal at this point actually. Those minor leaguers absolutely stink IMO, and I'm glad none of them have the chance at being the 5th starter now. Trainwreak averted.

Its another good signing, but the Jays still have a poor pitching staff. I like the Jays Defense and I like the Jays Offense but the starting pitching is very average (at best).
JP is doing his best finding other options and is trying to get lucky with one of them. However if the Starting Pitching really struggle or if they sustain an injury the Jays will have a tough time finishing .500.
I personally believe this is JP's year if the Jays tank the season I bet JP is released at the end of the season.

I would be the first in line waiving goodbye and good riddance, but didn't he sign a 4 year extension or something?

Not sure, but if a fan looks at JP you have to be worried. He has drafted really poorly, his trades are suspect and can he find the talent? I am not to sure.

I agree. He's been hugely overrated (I'm sure because of his ability to yap and give the direct route...it's convinced a lot of people here in the big city). Let's start a "BRING BACK GORD ASH" campaign.

Not sure if it is the best strategy or one that will work for the Jays, but that is basically how the Cardinals built their pitching staff that ended up winning the pennant for them.
Rather than hoping to get lucky though they were relying on Duncan being able to help these guys fix their problems. But if you look at Weaver, Suppan and Marquis. These are three guys nobody really wanted or wanted to give big bucks to.
So if you have a good pitching coach and the right guys it may be a method that works and one that is effective in this crazy pitching market.
(I apologize to Sylvanfan in advance for bringing up the Cardinals in the Blue Jays thread I know you are tired of me talking about them. )

A long as Pat Tabler is still around on one of the channels everything should be okay.

That guy looked like a transvestite from the way his people did his eyebrows. Any reason in a link as to why he's been replaced?

Just heard it on the Fan update - not much else said.
I thought he was getting better but wasn't a big fan. He seemed really relunctant to be critical about any player period- whether they be the Jays, the opponent, anything.

Ashby was replaced in Houston by a couple of younger guys who would be less critical of the team, according to Blair's blog on the G&M website. Sounds like Ashby will bring a little wit and dry humour, which is great, Sawkiw wasn't ready for primetime.

Sawkiw looked like he wore more Mary Kay than my wife does. I couldn't watch that guy without thinking he was wearing a skirt under that desk.

Speaking of jays commentators, I've really enjoyed jamie campell overall. He's not overlyexcited and has really improved from 2 seasons ago.
As for the okha signing I don't mind it at all. I watched him a ton when he was a spo, he's just as advertised. Steady for the most part and when you look at his numbers compared to Meche, the guy is a huge steal.
