The investigation is on the contractual and legal side by now, these guys aren't trying to salvage Peters at this point. It's how to fire him with cause based on something that happened 11 years ago.

Why pay out his full contract if you can find a way to terminate it without paying him any more?

If you fire a coach you still need to pay them for the remainder of the contract.
And Peters is rumored to make $2m/season. Do the math.
Peter’s is 100% done coaching. People need to stop freaking out about the timing, it’s coming.

Didn’t you post earlier today that Treliving better not “bobble this or it’s his ass that will on the line”?
Looks like taking some time makes sense hey?

They would still have to pay him.
They are likely looking at how to use the "ethics clause" to be free and clear of him at this point.

No. No one should ask Brad Treliving that.
Neither he nor the Flames organization have remotely suggested any part of the allegations are acceptable. There is no need to ask such a loaded question.

I don’t get this implication at all. To me, it just looks like they are doing what they can to remove Peters wiith minimal blowback on the org. Treliving has already condemned the reported behaviour as completely unacceptable. The outcome seems foregone from everything we have seen.

Companies fire people all the time too for performance reasons, doesn't mean those ex-employees can't come back and sue them for wrongful termination, defamation, sexual harassment etc.
Let the the lawyers figure this one out and protect the Flames and the NHL as much as possible. Frustrating but necessary.

So looks even though nothing is official yet, Peters is at least effectively suspended and Ward effectively interim head coach

This stuff absolutely disgusts me to the core and makes me wonder just how much racism in hockey has just been swept under the rug.

Always best to do internally, unless proper steps aren't taken in going that route.

Further, in the corporate setting, rarely is it a snap decision. There is significant leg work behind the scenes prior to pulling the trigger. And they aren’t typically subject to their moves being followed by the media. The Flames are ~24 hours into this thing. If true, Peters is gone, the Flames are being appropriately diligent.
Another aspect might be that if counsel determines that the Flames cannot claim “cause” and are on the hook for the remaining years, they might be trying to negotiate a buyout/settlement with Peters. If he resigns, he’s owed $0. If he’s fired without cause, he’s owed the balance of his contract. Maybe they’re looking for something in the middle. With Gulutzen potentially still being on the books and not that far removed from paying Hartley to go away, from a business standpoint, I can appreciate the Flames brass hoping to reduce exposure.

Personally, that's the route I think it's going as well.
They are trying to negotiate a buyout that sees everyone not interested in speaking to the media in depth about it.
Quickly and quietly is the order of the day I think, but that takes time between a group of representatives.

This is FINE. Flames are being very prudent. They said that Peters will not be behind the bench in the next game as they investigate further. This is perfectly OK. I want Peters GONE, but like someone said many pages ago, how does it look if you fire a coach within 24 hours of some guy tweeting an accusation? You gotta call the lawyers, you gotta cross all of the 't's and dot all of the 'i's. They came out with a statement at the end of the biz day letting everyone know where they are at.
This is good - this is doing it right.
And the Flames are gonna be RAMPAGING for the foreseeable future - I hate that part ;-)

You can bet it was on the contractual and legal side the moment the Flames got wind of things.

Just saw burn_this_city commenting on the impact of a racially motivated incident, in which the Calgary Flames are at the centre, being a franchise named after the burning of Atlanta by the Union under General Sherman in the Civil War.
