Sorry, I'll be more specific. Nobody currently in the NHL is attaching their names to anything, but there are still allegations being published. The reporting done on the Aliu accusation was very well done.

I wonder of Peters decided to reward them going into the break by slapping down a bunch of rules and restrictions on them for their time off?

As awful as all of this is, it could end up for the best. Treliving gets a free pass on a firing. The players aren't rewarded for quitting on a coach but get a new one anyway. A reset before the season is lost.

I was thinking the same thing. The only person this will end up bad for is Peters.

Get it over with, Flames. The stories are only going to keep pouring in. Better that they not be about the current Flames head coach.

For very good reason, I expect. The reason it took Aliu so long to come forward, and didn't actually do so until his playing days were done is the same reason why Babcock's antics were the stuff of rumours until only just the past week.

There is a conspiracy of silence in hockey that perpetuates abuse. With the new reports that Carolina's player leadership group took their complaints to the GM and it resulted in no action is a good indicator why it has been allowed to continue for so long.

I'm 100 percent confident that the legal side of all this is going to take time. I'm sure if they had all their bases covered itd be done by now. Lawyers are gonna do their thing and nobody is gonna rush them.

Given the fact Peters wasn't popular in Carolina (or maybe anywhere he coached) it really does look like his act was maybe starting to wear thin with Flames players. Elliott Friedman kept leaving hints over the weeks saying stuff like the relationship between Peters and the players was tense. They have been playing so far below their level this season that you just got the feeling something wasn't right. I suppose we will see with him out of the picture if the team starts playing better that it's probably proof he had lost the team.

the legal path will have to run its course, but it seems like the Flames should be suspending him pending the completion of the investigative process...

seems like there is more than enough evidence to do that...can't imagine Peters behind the bench considering the information that has been coming out, especially with the Carolina sources

From a purely conspiratorial point of view, I wonder if Aliu was encouraged through a back-channel to comment? Did an unhappy player(s) on the Flames see the Babcock situation as an opportune time to light this fire?

Note that this has no reflection on the accuracy of Aliu's comments. I do not doubt his story or sincerity.

on TSN LeBrun says Peters is getting paid around $2 million US per year and most NHL coaching contracts have an ethical clause.

He says teams are watching this because it could be precedent setting for future coach firings and whether the Flames are still on the hook for his salary.

This story and all its evidence is still going to be discussed over and over on all broadcasts, regardless of the headline attached to it... so it seems like a no-brainer to at least want to have the best headline you can get in your favour.

I believe that when allegations are made, there is nothing wrong with due process. Treliving is doing the right thing

He has made his first comments on behalf of the team, which were generally appropriate.

They are going to be as transparent as they can and they are not going to be commenting on every piece of information as it becomes available.

The team’s official and final position and detail on actions taken will be expressed when they are ready.

I don’t want to see the team pandering to headline writers. I do want to see them do the right thing.

-Says Babcock was a dick to everyone from front office to parking attendants

-Says slim to none chance that Peters will ever coach again in NA. Would be shocked if he's on the bench tomorrow against Buffalo.

I was hoping he'd get more into his time with him as an assistant coach in Detroit.

Even more reason for Tre and the Flames to get it right... Drag it out another 16 hours if it means the organization can actually put this behind them.

Sad, if true, for all involved.

Can't see how this falls on Tre - no one talks about this in reference checks (too much liability when talking about someone, even if it's true; especially in the US).

He might have heard Peters was hard-assed or something of that nature though that is pretty normal kind of talk, especially in coaching.

Ron Francis, for his part, may have disciplined Peters in a manner far short of firing. We have no idea and neither do the proponents of the issue. He might not have, too.

I'm guessing that late tonight an announcement will be made. At least of a temporary suspension if not a full change. They have a lot of due diligence to do, and many jurisdictions and stories involved. A mistake would be ... expensive, to say the least.
