I want Marc Savard to coach the PP!

Edit- now that I think about it, with the allegations against Bill, this hiring makes a ton of sense.

I voted for Gaskal.

Those analyses (with TV screen captures) from a couple of seasons ago really accurately broke down what was wrong with the powerplay at the time.

Obviously not a hockey example but Greg Popovich embodies what a coach should be in my opinion. Honest communicator but passionate about his players success and basically fosters a family environment. NBA teams are smaller so the NHL is a different beast, but I’ve heard players love playing for Gerard Gallant, so maybe find someone who has his style?

With your vote of confidence I'd immediately get to work on a PP breakout that's basically the flying V from the Mighty Ducks movies.

Rittich has to do the arms above his head thing too. Seems to enjoy it though...

If I'm the flames I would at least have a phone conversation with Darryl and get him on the radar if not for now than as an option for in the offseason.

As it stands, nostalgia aside, he's probably objectively a top 3 candidate for what the team needs right now until one of the guys in minny or nashville gets fired.

Given the image problem the Flames have with their current coach, and the team's on-ice struggles this season, the obvious choice is Wesley Snipes:

1) Flames (and NHL's?) first Black Head Coach

2) Really knows how to deal with m******f*****s who are always trying to ice skate up hill.

I’m opposed to anything that threatens ATL. Therefore, with heavy heart, I must vote against your becoming head coach.

I'm gonna bet Daryll is already on his way to CGY. Owners are going to push that one through in a hurry. I think that while Treliving stays, he has lost his autonomy hiring coaches.

Because at the creation of this thread it was a bit early to be discussing who the next coach would be when the current coach was still the current coach.

Flames coaches as far back as I remember, and the coaching styles I remember them having. Keep in mind some of these go way back, and my memories of them may not be as accurate as others'.

1 Bill Peters (limited experience hardass)
2 Glen Gulutzan (inexperienced hardass)
3 Bob Hartley (experienced hardass)
4 Brent Sutter (limited experience hardass)
5 Mike Keenan (experienced hardass)
6 Jim Playfair (inexperienced hardass)
7 Darryl Sutter (experienced hardass)
8 Greg Gilbert (inexperienced hardass)
9 Al MacNeil (player's coach)
10 Don Hay (player's coach)
11 Brian Sutter (limited experience hardass)
12 Pierre Page (teaching coach)
13 Dave King (teaching coach)
14 Guy Charron
15 Doug Risebrough (inexperienced hardass)
16 Terry Crisp (limited experience hardass)
17 Bob Johnson (player's coach)

We're right in start of what should be a pretty decent window, considering the ages of our best players. Wouldn't it be nice to not hire a coach based on their ability to bust balls, but instead because of their ability to manage a game/bench/systems etc?

Like, maybe let's depart from the hardass coaches for a while. It's not like we're swimming in years of success under them. I mean, it can't possibly get worse can it?

Edit: I remember Guy Charron as a player, and I remember he coached us, but I think it was a transitional period or something. I know Riser tried to do the GM/Coach thing, but I can't remember the full details. I did a lot of acid around that time too, so... well... you know how it is.
