When asked why he waited nearly 10 years to step forward, Aliu pointed to former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick as a reason to stay quiet.

“This isn’t me being bitter. I sat on this a really, really long time. It broke my heart, I think it made my career go downhill before it started,” Aliu said. “This isn’t to the degree of Kaepernick by any means, but if you play the race card, it’s most likely the end of your career.”

Aliu said he did not confront Peters at the time of the incident, nor in the private meeting that followed in Peters’ office.

“What am I going to say? I was 20 years old and a first-year pro. I was too scared to speak up,” Aliu said. “I beat myself up every day over it.”

Zero chance Peters survives this and is likely done as a NHL coach for his career.

I hope they fire him today and move past this mess ASAP.

How many people have to confirm that he said something before the Flames act on Peters?

Probably a couple of lawyers and some people from HR.

This opens a door than may never be closed. I'm not a fan of Peters, but him getting sacked for something that was done a decade ago is just bad business IMO.
The only people that should be worried about this precedent that is being set are either morons, racists or complete dbags. There's a big difference between someone dropping a remark like this (which is still no good) and what we have here.

This is not just a case of using bad language, this was repeatedly directed at an African player and done so in a way to make a scene in front of the entire team! Peters had every opportunity to correct what he said after the captain spoke with him and did not.

This speaks volumes to the kind of person he is.....I really hope this is over and done with today so we can forget he was ever here.

Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

Or three strikes?

You don't even get one strike anymore.

A guy makes a mistake and everyone wants to kill him immediately.

All of this and Canada elects a guy to be Prime Minister who can't remember how many times he dressed up in blackface.

What if he owns it and issues a sincere apology to Aliu, the fans and the org?

I think it's pretty obvious they are "investigating" his contract, what the termination provisions are, what deal they can make to ensure it's more or less smooth. They also have to appear to be fair to Peters.

It would be foolish to do otherwise.

The court of arbitrary opinion has ruled: 3. No wait, 2?

Loubardias in his hit this afternoon said that the Flames had a really good, "fun" skate in Buffalo today. He said something to the effect of them looking light, carefree and enjoying themselves.

This is good to hear in view of today's developments.

Do you seriously think this is how the world should be? A three strike rule on malicious and targeted use of the N word?

Learning a lot about people today.

Get on it Tre - it's an embarrassment to the organization.
This one stinks of someone looking for their 15 minutes.

Commodore gets media attention for hating Babcock, and this clown is trying to cash in on it.

Even the line "if you think Commodore is bad, wait until you hear what I have to say!"

Peters wasn't in the building.

I wonder if it's related...

All he had to say was turn that #### off. There is no place for the N word. It is much more than "bad language."

I honestly think moving forward we see a loose group that is going to be playing some unreal hockey for the rest of the season.
