No point in trying to guess as Treliving in his two hires as seemed to avoid the obvious choice as he's gone with coaches that haven't had a lot of success prior to being hired by the Flames. Given the build of this roster and win-now mode he may have to look at a coach that has some experience. Maybe a guy like Laviolette becomes available in the offseason or he looks at a top assistant from a successful team. It will be interesting to see what happens but after three coaches he should have a better feeling about the type of personality needed to coach this team.

Nah. Trotz is only 4 years younger. Darryl is fit and sharp. Seems like his coaching style eventually wears out on players resulting in a 4-5 year tenure anyway. So, good timing.

Peters is 54 for comparative purposes
If I had to pick a coach who would still be a complete workhorse at 61 I'd pick Sutter. Guy is probably busy building barns and riding arenas with hand tools right now.

I'm not sure I want Treliving in charge of the next coaching hire to be honest, and I'm not a guy who wants him fired as GM either. I think he does more good than bad, but he should really be taking the day off on July 1st, and he's really whiffed on his two coaching hires now. Both guys started out alright but were quickly tuned out by the roster. One was a timid idiot and the other an enormous a-hole it would appear.

But in the meantime we've seen guys like Quennville, Trotz, Vigneault and even Tippet relocate.

Maybe just run the season out with an interim and hope somebody like Laviolette or Boudreau become available.

So long as there aren't skeletons yet to be revealed about Darryl Sutter, I want him behind the bench.

If they want younger, Cail MacLean is doing just fine with the Heat. Maybe he deserves a shot?

MacLean is a second-year AHL head coach. It's WAY too early for him to be jumping in as a bench boss in the top league in the world.

I would love to see what Darryl does with the rest of the season

Something to prove, the kind of guy I'd love to see prove it, and if what we saw last year was any indication... the potential weapons to prove it

Give whoever the new coach is a fresh start next year

Then an interim hire for the rest of the season where the Flames are already in tough is an ideal spot to see if that's the case. Nothing to lose, really.

You're likely right. I would say Darryl then.

If Nashville cans Laviolette, he's the coach you want to hire. 100%.

Well we missed the big rising potential star in Sheldon Keefe by a week, not that the Leafs would have let him go, but there are three other relatively lesser known names I have been interested in and have been following for the past couple years who have no NHL head coaching experience.

Rocky Thompson (yes, that Rocky Thompson)
Kris Knoblauch
Troy Mann

I think what they need to evaluate is who's available now, and who could be available in the summer. Don't over commit to someone now, if you think the right person is there in the off-season.
I predict it will be an interim situation.
