Also, when you are effecting a persons lively hood, the right thing to do is to deliberate, even if the right choice is obvious.

This, except then they present him and his representation with the evidence, and say "we can either go to the mat or you can take this cheque (much smaller than he'd get otherwise) and clear out your desk now with as little fuss and as little further damage on your record as possible".

This is a tough situation for a all ready fragile team, hope Treliving is thorough but hope a decision is made as asap, not drag on and drag the team down further. If it is true, I would hope that Peters would contact Aliu and apologize to him.

What were some of the stories? Just curious.

Gotta wait until Friday. I find it's always better to fire people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.

Me too. I know the team's had a rocky 1/4 to start the season. But I really believed with the right players he could have gotten the team where it needed to be. Last season was one of the best ever. I thought it was only a matter of time before they started clicking again.
But in the year 2019, there is absolutely no room for racism in this country. 5, 10, 20 years ago. Doesn't matter. It's one thing if he would have apologized to Akim immediately after in his office. I could live with the team keeping him on board if he showed remorse right after. Instead, he drops more racism right to the kid's face. People at that age don't change. If they do, they are definitely the outliers and those are few and far in between.
Canada for the most part is a pretty tolerant society. But there's still people stuck with racist mentalities. You could even see in on some CP members in the other BP thread or anytime race discussions pop up. Sadly it's never going to go away. But thankfully the good outweights the bad.
Absolutely the right decision to let him go. And this coming from a huge Peters fan.

Which poses the questions; why wasn't it dealt with 10 years ago? How much did the CHI organisation know? Is the AHL's grievance process effective?

I really hate the standard this is about to set. If Peters has not said anything like this while coaching the Flames then there is no grounds for termination - other than his ####ty coaching. How many people are going to get railroaded because they used bad language in the past? How many hockey players have not used a homophobic slur in the past? This opens a door than may never be closed. I'm not a fan of Peters, but him getting sacked for something that was done a decade ago is just bad business IMO.

They released a statement this morning saying this is the first they have heard of the allegations

Why would anyone want to close that door again?

That's my point, sorry was being a bit obtuse. Why didn't anyone say anything, 10 years ago the US had elected a black president. How the hell has hockey managed to have this f'd up culture for so long?

Good. Open that door and out every single person.
N-bomb = racist
F-bomb = bad language
There's a ####ing difference.

A player using a slur in the heat of the moment on the ice is totally different than a coach saying it multiple times to a 20 year old.
This is nothing new. If you said heinous racist #### 10 years ago and you’re a public figure, expect bad things to happen.

Agreed with everything. I think we need to appreciate how advance Canada is while acknowledging how far we still have to go. Just try having a conversation with many Albertans if you try to argue that "No, not all First Nations only care about money."
You could probably find several posts on this very board that if you replaced Indigenous/First Nation/Native/Indian with Jew and you would have thought that it came from a Neo-Nazi forum and the racist greedy stereotype of Jewish people.

If Peters admitted to it immediately, expressed regret, contacted Aliu and apologized, would BT say they’re still investigating? If Aliu accepted his apology, could Peters stay?
