Would Sportsnet really say he's fired based on him not showing up for practice, or have the Flames already made a decision and are still "reviewing" the situation out of respect for the position?

Treliving said this is strictly a Flames investigation, not a joint effort with the NHL. He called the allegations "repulsive." Wants all facts before making final, official determination.

Treliving says Peters remains at hotel. Could not offer much other than to say he’s spoken to all parties, takes accusations extremely seriously and is gathering more info

I think the insider tweets mean that he's gone. I believe that much. The statement from Treliving means that their use of "fired" is probably more than the team can officially say yet. Like I said before, they will probably part ways without it being a "firing". Or if it is a firing, it will not officially be for cause.

I get that they have to go through the process but if two teammates are corroborating, regardless that it wasn't directed at Aliu personally, it is still something that you cannot say in any situation. This would have blown over 20 years ago or even 10 years ago, but there is no way that it can now.

Treliving stresses #Flames take this very seriously. Did not say Peters is definitely keeping his job, just that investigation continues.
|
So... if Treliving is satisfied that the allegations are probably true, there is no way that he can permit Peters to continue to coach the team. Based on the TSN report, it seems highly, highly likely that the investigation will confirm that the allegations are likely true. Still seems like it is just a matter of time now...
I understand it from a Flames perspective. They need to act quickly, but no too quickly. Need to complete a serious investigation. I can say from experience that these types of workplace investigation often take weeks to complete. Obviously, in the context of the type of media attention that this is/will receive, they don't have weeks. But I think a day or two is entirely reasonable.

Whenever it gets resolved, the end result is Peters has to be canned. There’s no way you keep him after this.

An employee of Sportsnet jumping the gun based on nothing seems likely.

Absolutely. They will make sure they have all their ducks in a row before making anything official, even if it's already pretty much a done deal

I don't know how old you are, but its not like 10 years ago was 1955. It wouldn't have blown over 10 years ago if it came out.

I think they know he is gone, but used "fired" untechnically.

Why are they hiding Peters at the hotel? When is he going to respond to the accusations?

He's effectively fired already. Won't be behind the bench for the Flames again.

I believe this is what the holdup is. They have to put together an evidence package sufficient enough to fire Peters with cause, no pay, and withstand any scrutiny from an Alberta court if it ever came to the unlikely event of a wrongful dismissal suit.

It’s just how these things work. You can’t have Peters coming out and creating a huge media ####storm. Do the due diligence and let him go, then let him make a statement.
It’s all HR and lawyers now I’m guessing. It would be hard to believe BT doesn’t have enough info now to fire him. Still can’t jump the gun and open themselves up to issues later.

Happy to hear they're going to be acting fast on this, but I hope this thorough investigation has an early enough end-date to avoid embroiling the team and its PR in this much more than was unavoidable. As if they can start to get a glimmer of hope to turn it around... then this
Talking with Peters, Akim, teammates, and up to Stan you have to wonder what Tre & Co are hearing that give them any pause not to be getting way ahead of this.
