Why’s it a sheet opinion? Own your mistakes, learn from them and grow. That’s life.
Again I’m assuming he’s still not using the word and it was a random incident, and not something he called him every time he saw him.

If we’ve learned anything from the blackface scandal from Canadian media and even some people in this thread, it’s that apologies make things better all the time always. So two words can save his job no matter what, hope all the people yearning for his firing take that into account before they fantasize too hard about it happening.
Obviously this has to be corroborated by at least one other person from that dressing room before anything should come of this. I’m sure Trekivkng and others will get into contact with Aliu to find out what exactly “dropping n bombs towards me” means exactly. That doesn’t read like peters is directly calling Aliu a n—-, which some people are already running with. Obviously if he used the word it’s still a problem but this all needs to be figured out in much more detail than some tweets.

i'm solidly in the 'wait and see' camp with this one. it's pretty easy for someone to say stuff about someone else just to be a tool.
now, as i say that, i also would like to share a little background about me... there was a girl i dated eons ago (about 25 years ago) that was choked that i didn't want to go out with her anymore and a couple months after the break up - and conveniently shortly after i left town for work - she started spreading totally unfounded crap about me. now this is pre-cell phones/texting/social media/etc, so i come back home for a visit and start hearing all this stuff. it didn't take too long for people to confront her and she basically admitted that she was just making crap up to try and make me look bad.
so yea, i try not to be too quick to judge when i hear stuff like this. do some digging and if there is merit to the accusations fine, but until then - wait and see.

Now for the more lawyery response. It all depends. Was it a question asked during the interview? Did it happen more than once? What was the full context?
It's likely that if this was a private business, with no pr side to it, that it wouldn't amount to a cause termination. It would lead to disciplinary measures, but likely would not be cause.
The real question is if this was misconduct that has caused irreparable harm to the employment relationship. It just might have because of the profile of the job.

If you're willing to elaborate further, follow-up question:
If I understand the situation, Peters was with the Hawks organization when dealing with Aliu at the time in question. Can the Flames (or any employer I guess) discipline or fire Peters for something wrong he did while employed somewhere else?
I'm no expert, but I find that strange. Kind makes a person's whole career seem like a trial where the judge is whoever happens to employ them at the moment.

Can’t we just enjoy a little conspiracy theory?
Or did I forget that CP doesn’t rhyme with fun.

Sidebar - due to how much I listen to, I might be entirely numb to the word. I can find myself dropping lines that contain ‘n bombs’ pretty often, and I don’t think that’s racist in the slightest.
As for Peters, I suspect he called it ‘###### music’. Not appropriate. Unfortunately, it was and still is a very common thing to hear. Seriously, if the notion of that being the case shocks you, you just didn’t spend enough time in certain places to hear that derogatory term.
|
Did you grow up in a white town with little minorities/black people? Anyone calling it N**** music in the greater toronto area would catch an ass whooping. That is clearly racist and you obviously grew up in an area that accepted it. I have never in my life of listening to rap music heard a black person call rap N**** music. There is a world of difference in raping/singing along to a song you enjoy and saying that word versus explicitly categorizing something N.. music.

I’d suggest that the posts calling for someone to lose their livelihood based on an allegation regarding something that may have been said over a decade ago by a player with a checkered history are the true ‘flaming bag of ####’ opinions in this thread. Your sanctimonious, holier than thou schtick is so tiresome and simple-minded.

Not really the thread for "fun"
We either have a young man abused by someone in a position of power
Or
A player trying to destroy a mans career based on a lie

The other day.. Treliving was quick to point out that he is responsible and should be held accountable for the play of yhe team. It starts at the manager level and he has been horse####.
Peters is his guy. So, does that mean Treliving should also be held accountable... it would be nice to wake up to see both peters and Treliving stepping down.

Or we take a step back and remember the world isn’t either polarized side but there is grey area where 99% of the time the truth exists
Who knows on this one but I have a hard time believing that your 2 polar extremes are valid.

I've heard black people say N**** beats when referring to rap music. Not really relevant to Peters but let's not pretend there aren't people you use it every other word.

I wonder if this whole Babcock thing is going to kick off the NHL's version of the Me Too Movement of mistreated players.
