Gio has unfortunately hit the wall and father time has caught up with him. Tre should approach him to see if he is willing to be traded to a contender while he still has some trade value.

Then, there was the Zucker cluster-you-know-what. Sources say there was a lot of resistance, even from some of Fenton’s hires, but Fenton came close to trading Zucker to Calgary for a first-round pick and Michael Frolik. Because of an issue on Calgary’s end, the trade fell through at the very last moments before the 2 p.m. deadline.

Haha yes, I've been thinking it was just about time to revisit this thread and see how it had aged. Those of us with early doubts were spat on for sure. It's too bad those shadows have grown, as you say, and it may get much worse here before it gets better.

My speculation is Frolik wouldn't waive his no-trade.

Previously though this has happened when Treliving couldn't get approval from Ken King in a timely matter.

The final version of a trade is often a little or a lot different than the media speculation hours earlier. Also, the butterfly effect of any of these past close-trades taking place is impossible to predict. Zucker on the roster would have lead to a very different off season.

Figured it was best to sell high in May, after that incredible season.

I used to think Sean Monahan was the best player from the 2013 draft. That obviously changed last spring.

I don’t think this opinion would be considered unpopular but if this season continues on the same path I explore the following:
This season- Move Brodie, Hamonic, Frolik, Jankowski for the best futures based package you can get.
This summer- the 2 players that should be shopped and moved for the highest return should be Giordano and Gaudreau. Massive changes by moving the Captain and the best player but it sends a message and helps the team reset. Tkachuk gets the keys to the franchise and is now on the first line and captain.

With the assets from the rental and Johnny/Gio deals Treliving could be in a prime spot to acquire another start player and restock the prospect cupboard. Retool and be back in the mix next season.
