When they finally pull through it I don't see them allowing this sort of stretch of hockey to happen again for a long time because they're going to pinpoint exactly what makes this group click.
This could be when they find honest answers to those look yourself in the mirror questions. If the flames become successful down the road, this is likely the stretch that they'll refer back to as a key time in diagnosing whats missing to take a step beyond mediocrity.
It's so uncharacteristically bad of a start for so many good players that I don't see how they don't learn some important lessons about overcoming adversity.
Could very well be a blessing in disguise. See, it's playing merely average hockey where nothing is really learned because its not far enough to any extreme to reflect on. Now they're being forced to figure out some tough #### and it's both important and necessary.
I just look at how the 8 or 9 game losing streak in 2014 springboarded a rather poor roster and how great Johnny and Sean were down the stretch after they figured it out. If you can get that finish out a roster that had so many fringe level players, think of what this will do for a significantly more talented team.
Wait out the storm. It'll be over sooner or later.

Game Takes:
Blues 5 Flames 0
- Flames now shooting 2.5% in their last six games
- losing streak stretches to six
- 40 shots but the Blues had more blue chip chances

Craig Berube thinks their team could have played better in the defensive zone. That's pretty funny as the Flames still couldn't get a goal.

One team is the defending SC champs, whose core understands what it takes to win.

I've heard credible rumours that someone on the Flames may be perhaps a lockeroom cancer.

I know this sucks, but the worst thing this organization could do is get snookered in a trade since we'd be trading from a major point of weakness. Other teams know the Flames are desperate right now, don't make bad deals just to make a deal.
If they tank, tank hard. Trade some major pieces in the off season, re-tool and go from there. There are some nice young pieces (especially on the blueline), if the Flames make some decent trades they could be a good team again as early as next season.
Just try not to get to depressed watching it play out, and load up on lots of booze.

I mostly agree with this, but I think it's clear that the handedness imbalance in our top six / top 9 is a huge contributor to these annual slumps. Assuming we are able to add one of the top two talents in this year's draft, there's no imminent fix and we could end up botching the development of a player like Byfield or Lafreniere the way we have with Sam Bennett. Balancing out the handedness, even if it means a Monahan, Backlund, or Gaudreau needs to go if we are able to acquire a top draft pick, should be on the table.

yup... until they fired their coach and found a guy that was 6th on the goalie depth chart turned into a star...
not to mention the blues are the only team in NHL history to go from last place at the beginning of January to SC champs...
Last year's Blues were a Unicorn's Unicorn

Yes, the Blues had an absolutely epic AND historic run to pull them selves out. But that is merely a big fat exception.
After US thanksgiving if a team is still floundering below the playoff line, there's a better than 70% chance that team won't make the playoffs.

With it being the Flames, you just know they'll suck moose balls for most of the year, and then win 10 games in a row or something just to pull them into that 13-15th overall range at the draft.

In my limited experience of playing team sports one cancerous player does not break a team. It’s a collaboration that divides the room or has wholesale disagreements with coaching.

I knew we should have savored the success of last year, we're probably 20 years away from similar good fortune. It was a fun 60 game run while it lasted.

Based on the way the team is playing right now, that 30% sounds pretty good.

Not sure I agree with this part. I don't think they botched Sam's development, I think he's just a player that thinks he could play the same way in junior and not have to adapt, thinking he could still play the same offensive game. His hockey IQ isn't very high, either. Looking back I think he's one of those players who looks great in junior but who couldn't put it together in the NHL. It happens. Just sucks it happened to our franchise's highest draft pick.
