Theoretically, without sending anyone down, the Flames shouldn't really have room for Rieder in the lineup. Edit: missed that Bennett has been put on LTIR, so that partially explains it.
My guess is that a forward has been traded to clear cap space. Odds-on favourite: #67.

Why would the coach say anything i doubt it will be a trade it is likely just roster moves between the ahl and nhl

Gawdin & Phillips have worked well together. Try them on 4L with Rinaldo to keep things in check.

Gaudreau - Backlund - Mangiapane
Lucic - Ryan - Rieder
Phillips - Gawdin - Rinaldo
Kinda getting 2017-18 flashbacks but at the same time, it's different...?

Ahhhhh, I forgot him, I originally had Dube in at Backlund's position. Yeah, Dube over Rieder for sure.

Wills made the transactions comments following a note about Bennett to LTIR. Could be thats it, but the timeline suggests more to come.

How many spots are they sitting at now? 8 D-men (Hamonic and Brodie on IR), 12 forwards and 2 goalies, if I'm not wrong. Calling up Rieder makes it 23, no?
