Did my typical PVR delayed watch and gave up at 3-0 and fast forwarded to the end. Is this rock bottom?

Trade Gaudreau out east for a king's ransom...

He's your biggest asset, and biggest problem when the going gets rough.

He's no Fleury and never will be.

Philly, both NY teams, NJ, Sabres all have some very interesting pieces...

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Let’s talk about this in June because it would be ridiculous to trade him in a slump and in season when there are so many less options.

It's tough to be a fan of Calgary since 2019 started, but there are some fantastic stories and teams to follow.

I've had a soft spot for Philly, I see a lot of similarities between Gaudreau and Giroux, plus edmonton and Pittsburgh getting 2 generational talents each.

Boston as well is a favourite of mine because #### Vancouver.

Actually they weren’t by winning percentage. They have played more games than most teams.

Right now, there are only 6 teams in the NHL with a worse record than the Flames.

And an ugly minus 10 in goal differential.

I do not understand this mentality.
Winning the conference last year should not mean accepting barely being in a playoff spot right now.
Accepting mediocrity is not a positive quality for success.

A lot to unpack of course, but in general, the jumping up and joining of our defense into the play is seemingly non existent this year and Imo a big reason for the struggles of the forwards and fortunes of the team.

The d still pinch in the zone, but it's no longer a surprise to opponents. For whatever reason (neutralized, no confidence, etc) they aren't able to break out with speed, or are they getting the steals or turn overs at our blue line to turn the other way.

Those rushes often lead directly to a goal, but if not, they happened later in the shift as the other team was running around.

However, much more subtly, the defenseman leading the rush gave the team momentum, the forwards support and ultimately more space, and made the other team change their entry into our zone, which lead to more chances to breakdown opponents.

It was a under appreciated strategy last year, and provided a lot of juice for the team in a variety of ways, especially confidence. It is non existent this year and now our forwards don't have that speed or momentum entering the zone and able to be controlling the play from there. Our forwards especially need time and space, and without the x factor of a defenceman joining out of nowhere is a bigger issue this year then we think.

It doesn’t matter what I or you or any fan accept. The team is in a slump. That is all. The 89 flames went winless in 11! Relax!

CP would have had Lanny traded somewhere to get him a Cup. Nieuwendyk would have been traded because all he scored was garbage goals and didn’t use his size. Loob would be traded because he was too soft....etc.

Maybe rock bottom is what this team needs to find out what desperation feels like. Find their identity and go on a run and never look back.

Last year they rested on their laurels post All Star break and couldn't regain traction.

Maybe this year they can gain momentumat the ride time, and ride it into April.

I actually do think the above is possible. The conversation then turns to personnel. Do they have the players required to be a contender? Thats not looking so great.

IMO it wasn’t under appreciated at all. The mobile D was a non factor in the Avs series (should have been our biggest advantage) and is a non factor this season.

As a group they’re not playing with a ton of confidence but also seems this is a team which struggles with adjustments. Teams came up with an approach to beat the Flames and right now it seems like Flames have no answer.

True, Flames have also had one of the hardest schedules...probably the hardest in the west. They need to win some games but if they aren't completely out of it they have a pretty nice schedule in the 2nd half. (still gotta win)

If you look at all their road games so far its basically a murderers row of the toughest buildings to play in

The game completely changes if that Gio chance that Fleury robs him goes in. Changes the game from 2-1 to 3-0 as Pacioretty went down and scored shortly after. Lost for words at the moment with this team.

Well, underappreciated in the fact of how much it took the pressure off the top forwards to have to create.

That style from our d is missing right now and had been all season, and as a result our forwards are struggling to figure out how to create the time and space that last year's strategy gave them.
