Yup, and not just for this episode, but because he's awful.
In fact the only time he's remotely watchable, is that once a year state of the union all star game interview where Gary Bettman basically kicks his a$$ and gives him a wedgie on the way out the door.

It didn't look good that MacLean nodded in a agreement at the end, but that is what he always does to Cherry's dementia no matter what the topic is. There is no point in ever arguing or presenting an alternate view to Cherry. He just flies off the handle any time anyone questions something he says. All you can do is get it over with as soon as possible and hope it wasn't too offensive.
There was a time that MacLean used to argue with him, but he has totally given up. Really, who wants Don Cherry yelling at them on TV? Besides, the time slot was too short for MacLean to say anything after that and I would bet he was caught a little off guard by it.

Half the time I’m sure he’s nodding at the producer in his ear yelling “change the topic!!!”

I think the personal shots at how DC is failing have been covered, Is there any need to name call over and over on every bloody page. I'm sure all of you will age far more gracefully and eloquently then he has but I think its been fully covered he's old and not good at his job. Didn't mean to point you out specifically Flames Addiction just a generalization.
If someone asked me to predict how Don Cherry's career would end, there is a 100% chance I would have predicted "he will say something that crosses the line for the last time".

I agree it's a sad ending, I do think though he meant to single out minorities, he is that typically older guy who would hate to think of themselves as racists but says racists crap constantly, in a way they are not racist just angry at a world that has changed that they don't understand anymore.
I understand what you are saying but in what way are they not racist? In their own mind? It's not a subjective standard in that sense. I doubt many racists think they are racists.
I do feel a little bad for him though.
He's an 85 year old relic from another time, who made a very dumb comment on live TV and rightfully was let go.
I don't hate the guy for it though, I'm actually much more offended by younger, should be more in tune people that are defending his position with plenty of time to think about the matter and form their opinion.
The people doubling down on what he said are the ones who concern me.

Seriously, do you know anyone with dementia? Apparently you don't have your SJW book of words not to accuse someone of. This is probably the most debilitating disease and shouldn't be used, I assume you still use ###### also?

Actually, my father had dementia before he died. It's not a term I use loosely. I recall nodding along during his ramblings as well even though I didn't agree with them. Sometimes it's all you can do.

I've got a bunch of 1st & 2nd generation immigrants supporting Don and his comments on my Facebook feed, what do you make of them?

Trying to be edgy or completely lack self awareness I would assume.

Are you a dog? No? Then get away from that fire hydrant.
Are you OK with being fired based on implicit assumptions? Maybe we're giving Cherry too much credit here in characterizing his observation as some encoded racist statement. Is it possible he's just an idiot who is terrible ad ad lib? Hell, half the segment he's being reminded what he wanted to talk about.
I'm OK with him being fired over what anyone with working ears and a brain that runs on logic knows he meant. Rogers' complaint lines were literally broken by this incident. I guess a whole lot of people had a pretty good understanding of it.
By your standards, pretty much no one says anything racist because they always couch their statements in innuendo and suggestive language. When people in Charlottesville say "you will not replace us" they never mention a race or religion. Yet we all know what they meant. Or when people talk about "globalists" or "welfare queens" or "states rights" or "thugs". Lee Atwater spelled it out.
NSFW!
You start out in 1954 by saying, “N____, n_____, n____.” By 1968 you can’t say “n___”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “N____, n____.”
Also, if he's terrible ad lib, then he should be fired from his job ad libbing (if that was even an ad lib).

This makes me feel bad, like everyone is ganging up on an old man going senile.
I'm an immigrant. I'm going to miss Coach's Corner. Not for the analysis, just the nostalgia factor.
Cherry should've apologized, maybe then he would still have his job; that was never going to happen though. Still I really wish he wasn't fired on this specific day.
Cherry shouldn't have been divisive in his rant. It does sound like he saw a lot of non-white people not wearing poppies, and assumed they're immigrants being ungrateful. I know some (Asian) people in Toronto, they're not all Canadians, some are permanent residents, international students, people on work visa. It would be nice if they donated, but I don't blame them for not wearing poppies. They don't really have a duty to do so. We as Canadians should be leading by example. I did notice fewer people wearing poppies this year. Let's not forget this tradition.
Anecdote: in my family of immigrants, one person became a Canadian citizen, never bothers donating to the Legion; one never applied for citizenship, buys a poppy most years.

First and second generation immigrants who support Don's scapegoating of other immigrants to make a point about patriotism? They are just as wrong as everyone else who is defending Cherry's reprehensible comments.
