I wouldn't say the Market is more ethical. Corporations don't fire people that do dumb #### because it is the ethical thing to do. It's only about the money lebowski.

Look on the bright side, Trudeau's transgressions are child's play compared to Trump or the Bullingdon Pig shaggers running the UK.

I feel this is Rogers seeing an opportunity to make further cuts as response to their massive overpay for the NHL tv rights years ago. They knew if they parted ways Cherry like they did Kypreos there would be public outcry. After these comments it was easier for them to pull the plug.

Completely false. There are identifying immigrants and non-whites in this thread alone who have expressed their offence. I can only imagine how many more there are beyond our tiny internet bubble.

Let’s look at two quick highlights of 2019:

Don Cherry says “you people” during one of his incoherent ramblings without make up on, or without raising a hand to a woman - and the whole nation piles on and destroys a Canadian icon and turns him into an absolute villain.
I won’t stand by Don Cherry on what he said, but I think it’s a damn rotten shame that people no longer seem to believe in anything. Their focus is sporadic and self serving. Perhaps it has always been that way, but the way people pick and choose what to support...it’s as incoherent and inconsistent as even the craziest of Don Cherry rants.
Damn shame things have played out this way.

It is because they have a far more enhanced view of the public's sensitivity than politicians do. Ironically.

For those who have insisted that Cherry was somehow misunderstood, I think it is important to point out that the man himself has owned every word. He meant what he said.

If they wore a poppy they’d have no reason to be offended. “Those people” clearly meant people that don’t buy a poppy.

I wore a poppy. I’m an immigrant. And I’m offended. Don’t presume to know what others should or shouldn’t think.
And no for the 20th time in this thread, it doesn’t take much to infer that “those people who come here,” means immigrants.

Is this serious?
Those people that come here and want our milk and honey is referring to people who don't wear poppies?
I apologize if you were being sarcastic.

According to the Toronto Sun, Cherry said
Quote:
Cherry added: “I know what I said and I meant it. Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers.”
And Cherry said his words were not racial or bigoted but patriotic and respectful of our troops.
|
Do I believe that? I think he is backpeddling.
Here is the Sun's post who talked to Cherry.

The full transcript of Cherry's response reads:
"You people love—you, that come here, whatever it is—you love our way of life, you love our milk and honey, at least you could pay a couple of bucks for a poppy or something like that. These guys pay for your way of life that you enjoy in Canada; these guys paid the biggest price."
I think it was a slip. I don't think Cherry intended to say "you people that come here," but he said it most likely because that is what he believes deep down.
In the National Post article I posted above he confirms that he meant what he said, and I understand that to include the slip. I think it is actually very telling.
