Much like Don Cherry, you aren't necessarily punished only for what you just said, but for your whole body of work.

I am afraid that all decency and common sense which most of Canadians are known for has completely gone out the window. Most people nowadays are more concerned with Political Correctness than actually comprehending what the comments tha Grapes made were really about(that is if most of you even remember English Comprehension that you were supposed to have taken in school).
Cherry was NOT TALKING about ALL immigrants, especially those who have been Canadians for generations, and their forefathers fought for and died for Canada. No, he was talking about recent refugees even mentioning Markham and the greater Toronto area where the vast majority of these recent immigrants are esconsed in hotel rooms at taxpayers expense! Sportsnet has been looking for an excuse to get rid of Cherry, since they took over HNIC broadcasts. So to those detractors of Cherry, you finally got your wish.
Our Canadian Constitution anc Charter of Rights guarantees Freedom of Speech and Expression which is what Grapes was doing! I never got a subscription to Sportsnet, too damnned expensive. My own personal protest will be however, never to watch HNIC again or to listen to 960 the fan broadcasts of the Flames ever again, and I hope that others will do the same.
Ron Mclean you showed your true colours I hope Cherry cuts you off his great number of friends! As for Sportsnet and all the Politically Correct, do a physical impossibility with yourselves, engage your brain before putting your mouths in gear, and use your head for something other than a resting place for a couple of ears!!

The irony is I think Cherry's observation was correct, but as is often the case his conclusion was ignorant, of course new Canadians are less observant of Remembrance day, outside the west world war one was largely irrelevant.
It is no more reasonable to get mad at people who don't understand Remembrance Day than it is if they don't understand Thanksgiving (that as a Brit is utterly meaningless to me)

Any word on George Strombo? Is he gonna drop in with his ultra slim fit skinny suits and "talk hockey" like it's cool?

This whole outrage and cancel culture is/was definitely an issue on some level. The problem is too many comedians, famous speakers, people etc have hijacked the issue and turned it into "Every time anyone is outraged or says anything negative about an opinion or person it's OUTRAGE CULTURE!!!!".

I find it funny when applied here because Cherry’s whole schtick was being outraged.

"Just sayin" = take it how you want. Don't take it, as I really don't care. But essentially every element of this thread is opinion, starting with Cherry's.

What you're saying was very clear. You're a bigot who assumes white people are true Canadians and the rest immigrants and used this to frame Cherry's rant as portraying reality.
Unless you're "Just sayin" something else, if so please be explicit instead of just implicitly bigoted.

You are correct.
Cherry isn’t backing down from his stance, and refused to admit the comments were racist.
“I know what I said and I meant it,” Cherry said via the Toronto Sun’s Joe Warmington. “Everybody in Canada should wear a poppy to honour our fallen soldiers....
“To keep my job, I cannot be turned into a tamed robot.”

There is no question that if Trudeau had been working for any major corporation, he would have been gone by now. Grope-gate, firing an Indigenous woman to cover up corruption, blackface. These are all things that the market will not tolerate, but our celebrity-worship politics will.
It should tell people a lot about how much more ethical the market is than mere politics.

What a joke, the only people offended by his comments are white people trying to out-PC each other.

Next Halloween I'm wearing blackface, a poppy and a sign around my neck reading "Not one of Those People".
