Don is 85 years old........clearly he is who he is (whatever that means). Clearly he's never been the best a presenting his opinions in the most productive and effective ways (regardless of what those opinions are). Sure, Don has a role to play in understanding when his time is up and retire.................but so did his employer. They knew what he was about and how he communicated. Plenty of history and incidents to show what his opinions might be and how he communicates them. They were well aware that his brand was no longer aligned with what society finds acceptable from both how and what he communicates.
Yet Rogers continued to give him a his slot, because they wanted to benefit from the ratings he brings in and the advertising revenue he brings in. But then they get to simply cut the ties and pull a Shaggy and wash their hands of any of the responsibility. Sorry doesn't fly for me. You knew what you were putting on the air, you knew this was a likely outcome from decades of history.................Rogers = as guilty as Don Cherry IMO. You can't knowingly put someone on the air on your staff who you know is off brand with what you want to say your company is about, then simply can them and say sorry. I mean you can............obviously, but seems wrong.
|
Maybe. But for all we know this was an issue in the past which he promised Rogers wouldn’t come up again, maybe at the time he was almost not renewed this season.

SN should probably try and sell two or three more minutes of ads, try and shore up that revenue a bit.

Me too. There are fixes but I’ve been too lazy to do them (as opposed to just getting another one).
I also think the cashless culture slows them sales a bit. I walked around most of last week with nothing to put in a bucket.

I recall he was put on a 7 second delay but for some reason about ten years ago they took him off again.
Really I think this was about a meeting yesterday where they said “Don, apologize” and he said “stick it”. I bet he thought they’d cave in.

My thought is that more people don’t wear poppies because a younger demographic doesn’t carry cash. I’d buy 3-4 poppies but never carry cash anymore.

You're just siding with the networks because you're a big tv star now.

I agree. Apology or not...it could have been handled better, especially considering his age.

Oh god, Don Cherry is a millionaire, he will be fine. Honestly, he was given a shot, and paid very well for that shot. He said something truly ignorant and he's gone. Good.

So those people being supposed hypocrites means everyone else who wanted Cherry fired is a hypocrite?
Just to make sure I get this: if I didn't vote liberal then I can safely condemn Cherry for what he did, otherwise that person won't have credibility and has to grit their teeth and silently stand beside Cherry? (Nevermind the multitude of reasons that determines how someone votes and the awful selection of candidates fielded?)
Hey guys disclaimer I voted for Jody Wilson Raybould so I can safely, without any shade of hypocrisy, condemn Don Cherry!
Let's get everyone to preface their posts with who they voted for before they make any sort of statement from now on ok. That will allow us to weed out those without any credibility.

The biggest loser in all of this is whoever had a great gig making Cherry’s outrageous suits for all these years.
