Yeah, looks pretty ####ing stupid on your side too. Get over it.
I'm not conservative. I've voted for all three political parties over the past 15 years. And the reason I won't let the Trudeau black face incidents go is because it was disgusting. It's also still relevant because he's still the leader of the country regardless of whether LPC won the election. He apologized so he gets to still lead the country and we should all move on...is that the logic? Is that how this country works?

For the record, I have a hard time believing that many of these people expressing disgust with Cherry are truly are truly outraged, because if they were, they would have made much noise about trudeau. Instead many of the same voices on Twitter were Trudeau apologists.

---

Did Cherry articulate his gripe poorly? 100%. Was it offside? Sure. Could it be interpreted as xenophobic? Yes. And should that be noticed? Yes. And should he and Ron apologize? Sure.

But, if Cherry articulated his argument with grace...does at least some of the content have merit?

Instead of discussing the underlying issue Cherry has and whether it does actually have merit, ideological people use a tone argument to say he's xenophobic, push their overriding narrative and therefore push aside the entire basis of his rant as stupid. That bothers me a lot because it ensures the perpetuation of identity politics and outrage culture that is dividing our country.

Is this the end for Cherry? Are we using the same bar for "was blackface the end for Trudeau?" Because if we are, all you're looking for is an apology or less.

I didn’t say “so badly”. But they were intent on a non-renewal before he started an outrage campaign.

So no apology from Cherry yet? Having your co-workers and employer apologize on your behalf is about as authentic as saying "I'm sorry you were offended".

He is 85. Most of us have grandparents who have said worse. I don’t support what he said but I love the fact he is still trying to support Canada and it’s past.

My take is that Ron McLean is being spared (hence the apology video). Cherry likely has a meeting with the brass on Tuesday to determine his fate. The CBC has already handed the hot potato off to Sportsnet.

Rogers has a less sentimental relationship with Cherry than the CBC (CBC essentially created the Cherry personna). Rogers is looking to cut corners. Betcha it's going to be Coach's Corner.

God I won't even tell you what my grandpa calls Brazil nuts. Super embarrassing, but he will never change.

He doesn’t work today

MacLean does work today, and I have no doubt was, ahem, encouraged to apologize today.

Thanks, business daddy.

The difference is, my grandparents aren't considered some kind of national icon that get to ramble their comments off weekly on national TV. Don needs to be held to a higher standard, and if he can't meet that standard he needs to be replaced.

Pretty soon they are going to have Ron changing Don Cherry’s diaper too. It shouldn’t be his job to babysit a senile old man. He gave up arguing with him years ago and is just used to nodding along with his rants.

Might we see the replacement of Coach's Corner with GM's Corner and Brian Burke? I for one would support such a move. Like Cherry, Burke is a gruff square jawed man of celtic descent. Unlike Cherry, Burke has relevant hockey takes and expresses the social values of our country. Despite being an American!

Of course the default position is that Cherry should be fired. That’s the cancel culture we live in today.

I don’t think he should lose his job. He’s a passionate supporter of veterans and current members of the armed forces. Always has been. And for that I’ve applauded him.

He’s certainly not articulate and not particularly bright. I don’t think he was being intentionally racist. Obviously there was a better way to express his take, perhaps in the form of a question as his generalization is likely flat out wrong.

He is stubborn so will likely not try to clarify what he was getting at. But again I don’t think it warrants being fired.

He's damaging the Legion's brand. He's hurting their cause. The "You People" he disparages volunteer to sell (and buy) the poppies. The "You People" currently serve in the military.

They've gone to great extents apologizing and revoking hall rentals to Neo-Nazi groups, and they now can ill afford having a racist on national television advocating for them.

Racist.

For a situation where the issue is how the guy on TV chose his words, I am still surprised by how fast and loose some of you people are with this word

The silence from Don here is really deafening. How was he ever voted the seventh-best Canadian of all time?

I understand he meant a lot to a lot of generations but I think it's time for him to retire.

Seriously?

I guess you have the right to post stupid stuff. Those men and women died to preserve that right.

Wow, I find this so disrespectful. Very upsetting to find people so ungrateful for the freedom they have and who earned it for them.

Because he is a Canadian icon, successful coach, ambassador for the national sport, unabashedly patriotic, while also being an outspoken advocate for veterans, first responders, the people who put their lives on the line every day for their fellow citizens?

His body of work spans decades, not just a few seconds yesterday evening.
