GOAT!
The Evolution of Mr. Overtime (our not-#1C)
Has anyone else noticed how
dominant he's been in the faceoff circle this year?
http://www.nhl.com/stats/player?repo...faceoffWinPctg
Among all positions, minimum 200 faceoffs taken:
- 4th in the NHL in overall FOW% at 57.1% (career avg is only 50.2%)
- 61.5% defensive zone
- 70W-56L when the team is behind
- 94W-63L when the score is close
There was mention earlier in the season that he had told the team he was going to work on being a more complete player in the offseason...
Results:
- Ridiculously better at faceoffs
- Playing bigger and meaner
- In spite of playing more physical, still doesn't take penalties
- Has 16 points in 19 games, while "slumping"
At only 25 years old, the evolution of #1C Sean Monahan is not even close to being complete.
Edit: fixed my error and drew attention to my fix by bolding it

Nonsense. The only team on which Sean Monahan is the #3C is Pittsburgh. Maybe Washington, I don't know how much centre Kuznetzov actually plays.
Backlund is a #3C on a contender. What this team really needs is a big bear of a #2C. They need 28 year old Ryan Kesler. Someone who is all in with Tkachuk during scrums, who can physically dominate. They have everything else.

He's the one who sits in the corner and does not drink. Then judges everyone for having fun.
Also tells everyone they are super wasted and sound super stupid and are going to regretttttt it soooooo badly the next morning.

Name one Stanley Cup champion in the past 10 years that had a third line centre better than Sean Monahan.

Haha just poking some fun at other folks. I think he is a #1C but a lot of people think he is a #2 or #3 if the Flames go on a skid.

He had 36 hits in 78 games last season (0.4 hits per game).
This season he has 18 hits in 19 games (0.9 hits per game).

You are obviously trolling with this comment, but I doubt you even know what a contender looks like.

Ah, gotcha. I agree he’s a #1C. I understand he’s not elite like Crosby or McDavid but he’s still a damn good hockey player and he’s top two on most teams.

I didn’t believe they could win with the playoff Sean Monahan we witnessed last season.
But if this compete level and mean streak continue into the playoffs... that’s a totally different beast.
And would make him a legit #1 centre.

Just put a burr in Jankowski’s saddle. Problem solved!

When you’re the only one at your party, technically you are the most fun. And technically correct is the best type of correct.

Great post!
Especially this bit. Puts things in context
Monahan has been "pre-apex" for his whole career. Of course he hasn't measured up to 10 year vets.
We might be entering 3 years of apex Monahan, a ppg player, good on the dot, defensively responsible with a physical element.
