This is the best playing Lucic we will see with the Flames. He is on pace for a 15 point season, which I suspect will be his best offensive season in a Flames uniform. But we saved 500K on a 83 million dollar cap, slightly more than one half of one percent of the value of the cap, so there is that.

I cannot believe people are still hung up on Lucic's contract and refuse to acknowledge that Flames actually saved money and Neal provided even less to the Flames bottom 6 than Lucic. Sigh.

Owners saved allot of cash being Lucic bonus was paid first. Like $18m in cash savings for duration. Not that the owners have been skimpy and willing to pay up to cap. Has to be some splice here lol. Trust me Neal would have not even close to his performance if paying with the flames

Even if Neal performed at his pace from last season he would be on a pace to get 10 more points than Lucic. I would agree the deal was probably a reflection of ownership being frustrated with their GM about wasting money on UFA’s and BT trying to rectify that situation. Because it was clearly not a hockey trade, it was a trade that the Ottawa Senators frequently make on behalf of Melnyk.

Exactly! He scored most of his goal on PP with McDavid and Draisaitl.

Wes Gilbertson
@WesGilbertson
Flames GM Brad Treliving on two-game suspension for Milan Lucic: “I have the utmost respect for George Parros and the Department of Player Safety. They do a great job. But on this one, we vehemently disagree.”
Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
More Treliving: “I saw a player who poked, jabbed, whacked, speared, whatever you want to call it, the goaltender. I think 31 teams around the league, if you do that to anybody, there is going to be a reaction.”
Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
A little more from #Flames GM Brad Treliving: “We support our player 100%. We want our players to support each other, back each other up, and we felt that’s what Milan was doing in this case.”

And their PP is no better because all he has done is replace the goals by Chiasson from last year (who has zero goals this year after signing for $2.5M per year)

Oilers power play is second in the league at 27.9%.
Last year they were 9th in the league at 21.2%, so it appears their pp is significantly better so far.

Unbelievably bad player and I could care less that he isn’t in the lineup for two nights because it’ll have zero effect on the game. Hell, just suspend him for the next 4 years so I don’t have to see him in a flames jersey again

also, wasnt the first liberty sherwood took that game. I bet after he rocked kylington in the numbers, lucic told him to settle down or answer the bell.

Sorry, but the punch alone was more of a positive contribution than Neal provided all of last season. I wouldn't even want him in Stockton poisoning the kids.

Seems a little harsh but a shot to the head is a shot to the head. Especially to a defenceless player who wasn’t engaged in a fight.

The bigger problem now is that Lucic knows he cant do this any more, other teams know he cant do this any more, so what the hell can he provide this team with for 5.25 million a year until 2023?

So he can't throw a blind haymaker anymore. Nothing stopping him from ragdolling a player taking liberties on a teammate.
There's punches and then was that suckerpunch. I'm glad he did it but let's call it what it is. A cheapshot.
