Yea there is but it seems like you can't tell the difference so you toss everyone in the same pile.

The team looks just like they did last season - after the all star break. Something is certainly wrong. Johnny hasn't looked the same since that break, and the team nosedived from there.
We can't look at this team and compare them to the entirety of last season. We should compare them to post all star break.

Early on it looks like Elias Lindholm is closer to the near ppg player we saw last year than the 45pt guy he was in 5 years in Carolina.

I am only prepared to offer Travis Hamonic a 3 year contract at similar money to what he is making. If he's not open to accepting that offer, than I would move him come the Trade Deadline. I respect the player, and how hard he plays, and the intangibles that he brings to the team. But also recognize the physical toll this has taken on his ability to continue this style of play without decline is too unlikely. Hence I would not take any risk. I don't see him as a primary core piece, and am prepared to move on.
Depending on how the season was to shake out. I would consider looking at the 4-4-1 route in the Expansion draft and deal off a key forward for picks or expansion draft exempt prospects. At this point I project the likes of Anderson, Hanifan, Valimaki, and even Kylingtom to be more valuable on the date of the expansion draft than any forward who's not Gaudreau, Tkachuck, Monahan, or Lindholm, and I am a person who believes the Flames have recently over valued defence at the expense of forwards.

I don’t see how that is an unpopular opinion. It’s should be an unpopular fact. Maybe rose colour lenses.

Not disagreeing with you per se, but losing Backlund would leave a huge hole in who would centre the shut down line.

I just don't get that type of fandom personally. It doesn't seem fun.

For me it's the opposite. I was very active on the main hockey board here last year, there was lots to enjoy talking about with Gio leading the Norris race and Gaudreau in the mix for the scoring title (until after the ASG), and I finally started to believe that this franchise had turned a corner. But then the playoffs happened, and no major moves except for the ridiculous Lucic trade were made, and then this season started exactly the way I thought it would. Today was the first time I posted here since the Lucic trade, and most days I just go straight to Off Topic without even looking at the main board. I don't enjoy watching the Flames lose, it makes me disinterested in hockey as a whole, so I generally just tune them out until there's a reason to start paying attention again
I've noticed a definitive shift in my hockey watching habits after having kids, I just don't have the time or patience to sit and watch a lifeless game where the Flames get a whole 4 shots off in the 3rd period. I'd rather switch to watching cartoons with my daughter, I end up in a much better mood after that

My unpopular opinion - put Lucic on the 1st line with 13 and 23. Line 2 then is Tkachuk-Lindholm-x. I think this gives you balance offensively (and I hear those that might say "yeah, balanced crap", but after all you wanted unpopular opinions), Lucic gives those 2 someone who will work the corners and boards, is defensively responsible, and will offer protection. He is also a pretty good match for that line speed-wise.

If nothing else they should do this right now just to piss Neal off.

That's fine too - I was just basing mine on history of chemistry between 13 and 23. Although, maybe something happened to that 8 months ago and it has all gone to s***.

He’s got 10 in 14 games. That’s a 58 point pace for the season. That’s closer to the 45 point guy he was in Carolina then the guy he was last year LOL
I’m far from a doom and gloom guy but the fact that the only two responses to my question (I was hoping someone could point something to me TBH) aren’t really much of positives....

He's on pace for 47 goals, 59 points. He's not closer to the 45 point player he was in Carolina. The point total is almost split, the goals are way up and that's with not much help up front so far.

Hamonic isn't going to discuss extension during the season which means he's probably looking to test free agency.

2017-2018 44 points
2018-2019 78 points
2019-2020 on pace for 59 points. Can you help me figure out which number that’s closer too? So how is my statement inaccurate? Or are you just going off of “visibly” being better.
He also averaged 17:54 per game of ice time in 2017-2018 (roughly 1460 minutes of ice time over the 81 games he played) and he’s averaging 19:28 right now which if he plays 82 games is 1600 minutes (roughly) that’s quite a bit more ice time too if you want to factor that in as well.
Thanks for coming out.
