They don't have the cap space to do this.

No OT on the Fan? After the biggest media event for the Flames this year?
This has been a failure from the start.

Amen. I hate outdoor games. Fine concept for an exhibition game but hate that it's part of the regular season.

I am assuming the only reason why Ryan was on the ice was to win the faceoff. If the Flames had control he probably would've skated off and been replaced by Gaudreau but obviously that didn't happen *sigh*
Fun game for the most part except for some very questionable calls.

Its like I said last game. They are a wild card team that overachieved last year. Treliving knows it. He has been trying to make moves but none of them have gone through. I would be shopping Hamonic, Jankowski, Frolik and picks before Brodie though personally although that probably doesn't get you much.

Their best players, with the exception of Lindholm and Gio, have been nowhere near to meeting expectations.
How many times this season has the other teams best players been better than the Flame’s top players ?
That’s why the Flames are 1 game over .500.
Not the referees, not the schedule. Too many of their top guys have been disappointing.

The one valid coaching criticism is that Ryan should not be on the ice in OT. He just shouldn’t, end of story. Peters use of Ryan in Carolina generated criticism as well.

That’s because their top players aren’t as good as everyone here thinks they are. We caught lightning in a bottle with career years all jamming into one time and then we saw what they are made of come playoffs.
I’m sorry but that 7 game series vs Colorado showed us exactly what this team is. Change needs to come from within and they need a fire that just hasn’t been there yet. Overall they work hard but they at the same time weirdly just don’t seem to “care” the way they should.
It looks like this is a job, not a passion.

No they are playing lazy. It’s evident in all the weak ass stick checks the players are doing instead of busting their ass back and pushing the puck carrier off.
Stick checking is useless. It slows you down so you can’t catch up; it does nothing to impede the opposition; and you are likely to get a penalty.
It’s also what lazy players do.
in Practice, Peters should run drills where he takes the sticks away from backchecking forwards and force them to go back to basics and skate hard and push the puck carrier off the puck.

How couldn't they? Send Kylington down and Ltir on Czarnik? Plus send Quine back. Quine is Calgary's new Ben Street.

Happens to all teams their top players go through ups and downs. Go to any other fan forum you'll see the same hand wringing about top liners mailing it in every other game. That's why the Flames need more depth which is what Tre tried to do with Zucker and Kadri. We need someone else to help carry the mail when Lindholm is the only one clicking because inevitably the top line will go through ups and downs or be totally neutralized in some cases against good teams.
I think its a pipe dream to hang our hat on the top line playing at 100% every game to be successful. It generally doesn't happen for any team. The team is deep enough to be a wild card consistently but I don't see them being a legit threat for the cup with this roster unless they happen to get hot at the right time. i'm not worried though Tre is trying, eventually one of his deals will go through.

When everything is said and done, you are 100% correct as playing in the NHL is not a hobby or a job. It’s a passion.
Outside of top players like Gio and Lindholm and Tkachuk, how many top players are passionate about being positive difference makers in most aspects of being a winner every night.
That’s the difference.
Your best players are better than the other team’s best players, you win.
That’s what happened in the playoffs last season. It’s not complicated.

Was at the game today with the family. Some comments
- while low scoring, I found it an incredible experience. Very great production, lots of fun, lots of energy.
- intermission shows sucked. They could have done way better.
- refs were terrible. Lots of bad calls. I will even go as far to say that goal shouldn't have counted, and the play blown dead from Tkachuk's high stick. I was in the upper bowl and saw that high stick. Lowry should have gotten 5, and the couple penalties we had were garbage
- Johnny had an awesome game. He just couldn't score. A handful of quality chances, that should have put the Flames up 2 or 3 goals
- I love the new look 5 on 5 lines. Keep them going, let them build chemistry.
- Rittich was a beast tonight. He was so pissed after they won, he went to the door outside the arena and destroyed his stick, with about 5-6 chops over something.
- all in all, I was so happy to watch my Flames here at home, after moving. I wish they could do it yearly here. I was leery if it would be worth my money, but I was so happy and found it worth it. Even my wife did as well.

Tkachuk was slouched over when he made contact and it looked close to his shoulders so if he was standing straight it would have been below.

Flames Retro Whites for the win!!! As a kid I watched those jerseys win a cup and tonight was amazing with snow falling on the game all night.
I loved Rasmus instinctually crosschecking Lowry after boarding Kylington.
Rittich is legit #1.

I got picked to play a game on the scoreboard and won $1000 so I can complain about tonight. Had a blast. Thought the event was very well done and full props to Regina. Great host. Would do this trip again in a heartbeat.

The positives for me were the visuals. The snow, the eye black, Rittich in a toque, and the amazing jerseys definitely created some memories.
The negatives were the game itself. The ice was poor with players flopping everywhere and skill difficult to display. Players were also afraid to make mistakes and almost always made the conservative decision. Oh and the refs were really bad. Too many penalties on the Flames for just being more aggressive.
Honourable mention negative for Jim Hughson trying to manufacture some narrative of the Jets overcoming adversity. It’s a national broadcast in a neutral location!

Jets with some great dives tonight - for 6 foot whatever, ‘captain’ wheeler fell like an 8 year old boy when his skate was touched. But can’t blame the loss on a wheeler dive from the first period. OT breakdown between Doc and chucky did them in.
I want to see Lowry pay for the hit in the numbers on Kylington, no need with 2 seconds left in the period. Don’t care if the SN panelists say that isn’t his game- blatant hit like that needs lucic to cave his face in. See ya next time Lowry.
