Oh my. The tension is palpable.

He's an excellent player. But he barely touched the puck in OT except for a lap around his own zone.
Monahan again underrated by the fan base.

Barkov is a much better player than Monahan. He plays both sides of the puck will and drives the play Monahan is a passenger 8 games out of 10.

They needed one like that, where things go sideways but they snatch victory from the jaws of (previously certain) defeat. Comeback kidded the comeback kids without leaning on Gaudreau to do it. And taking the shootout decisively after struggling for some time.
I think that's important for the players to show themselves they have it in them to bounce back on a whim in games when they need to.

He's a bit better overall. Monahan's a better natural goalscorer. You're exaggerating both sides of the coin but I suppose games like this help your confirmation bias.
Garbage man has been pretty good in his own right. Just cause Barkov had a hot game doesn't mean he's in another league. I mean where has Florida been in the standings?
Monahan had a hand in a lot of wins last year. I think your 8 out of 10 statement is a crock.

Barkov's pretty boring. Zero charisma or personality in interviews. All he does is work hard at hockey. At least Monahan cracks a joke now and then. Barkov is super serious.

That game is the prototype for the Panthers this year. They've had a LOT of 3rd period leads that they couldn't hold onto, and then they lose in the shootout or OT. They don't have a lot of regulation losses, but they do have a ton of OT losses that should have been wins if they could figure out how to defend in crunch time.....or at all.
Coach Q has a LOT of work to do. Some really, really bad habits with this group. This might take all year to get to a passable level of defense. Bobrovsky is keeping them in games they should be out of early. If they ever figure this out they'll be a strong team, but I'm not expecting it to happen any time soon. None of their defensemen are overly strong defensively, and most forwards not named Trocheck or Barkov don't care enough about their own end.

Winning is better than losing.
This team is weird, I can't tell if they're the world beaters Pre-Allstar break, or the mediocre wildcard/low seed team Post-Allstar. Truth is probably somewhere in between, meaning it's a pretty solid team.

I'm glad they won, and I hope Gaudreau is sick still because he looked BAD.

Florida is 4-2-4. Their struggles are overrated. They are one of the most offensively dynamic teams in the West. Barkov is a top centre in the game (yes he's much better than Monahan).
This was a solid win.

Whatever you think about who's better between the two, Barkov definitely beats Monahan on the boring meter. He probably thinks smiling is a capital offense.

If you notice, I did not actually compare Monahan to Barkov therefore bias is not part of the conversation. Both things I said are true and they are independent of each other.
People were drooling over Barkov. It was over the top.
People underrate Monahan. Has nothing to do with Barkov.

He's much better defensively off the puck. If Monahan could develop his defensive game it would make it much easier to take Lindholm off that line to try to develop a great top two lines.

I haven't got to watch the Flames much yet this year but saw the game last night and it was pretty evident that Kylington has taken quite a leap forward this season. He sees the ice well and has a high skill level. When his confidence level gets up there he could be a real nice asset to have.

To me his biggest weakness was his size, but based on that off-season "hype" video, he seems to have finally gained his man-strength.
I don't understand why they scratched him multiple times as he has been better than Stone IMO.

I stopped the TV 2-3 times in the third alone to show the daughter (She is a Bantam AA D) the Flames D deep in the zone looking to BO and 2/3 forwards were nowhere to be found while Florida was on an aggressive 2-1-2. They were literally not in the D zone at all....Washington forecheck was playing it like they were expecting it at that point. Game was tied at the time.
I am not an expert but those were some examples of loosey goosey for sure.
edit. Should add, at these times the D needed options not a stretch pass...they did not control the situations.

Oliver Kylington - 6'0", 183 lbs
Erik Karlsson - 6'0", 189 lbs
(I'm not actually comparing Karlsson to Kylington except for their sizes.)
