Yeah he said that in 2016. And 2018. And earlier this year. Your trolling aside, everyone here understands and appreciates that Trudeau has approved it and keeps saying it will be built. We need concrete steps to ensure construction starts now and doesn't stop until it's done. Declaring the pipeline in the national interest and having shown up to court to try and get these vexatious stoppage lawsuits thrown out would be a good example of actions we'd like to see. But again, this has been explained to you multiple times. You understand we can't move oil through words and paper right?

Is he just waiting until they get to the last piece that needs to finish the build to kick it all down to say 'suck it Alberta, this was a ploy all along'

How is Canada going to meet the 2030 Paris accord targets if we increase oil production?

And it is mind blowing that Scheer and the CPC were not able to work that to their advantage.
Some say Scheer might get better with time, like Harper did as he progressed along his political career. I say never in a blue moon. Scheer simply does not possess the same smarts or whatever you want to call it. Cut your losses now. Sticking with a loser is never a good strategy for success.
Scheer and the people behind the CPC campaign have to be turfed and the sooner the better.

Yes I know you want to not have to follow a proper process and just ram it through and keep turning everyone else against the oil industry in Canada.

Well of course it won’t go like that. He’ll have a long ‘heartfelt’ speech about bringing the country together, climate responsibility, etc. In short, he won’t say anything resembling the truth about the matter at hand, just like every. single. time. he talks about anything. Have you not figured this out yet? Good grief.

You do realize it's almost 7 years since the NEB originally approved the line expansion. What is a reasonable amount of time for this to finally finish? 10 years from original approval to first oil?

You want to blame Scheer and the party...fair enough. Certainly a part of it all and he will feel the fire for the performance.
I place blame on people who voted way more however. I said it before the election and i say it now...you are condoning what he has done with every X marked on a ballot for the Liberals. Canada likes to think we are morally superior as a collective to the rest of the world...we are not. It was just proven in spades.
I mean if that laundry list of transgressions and law breaking and moral bankruptcy isnt enough to turf him...no idea what else there is short of committing a felony or what ever the Canadian equivalent is called these days.

in addition to what has already been said about the CT my thought is that the tax at it's current level really only takes some money out of people's pockets. If this tax is truly designed to change behavior then make a liter of gas $3. Make it so that people have to make hard decisions about filling up or heating their home. Walking or driving? Figuring out if you can get little timmy to hcoey/dance/music via bus or if you need to car pool with 18 other kids to save some gas money.

I don't think you can blame the voters on this. Scheer and the CPC didn't articulate how their plans were good for the whole of Canada. He didn't do a good job on selling the CPC. Further, like others have said, he could have done more to court the favour of the moderate Canadian, rather than trying to hold on to the vote of degenerates. Maybe Scheer didn't say outwardly hostile or hateful things, but he unfortunately courted them, and so guilt by association. The population centres are where he should have been looking for votes, and those are where educated, liberal-minded voters are.
Alberta and Saskatchewan would have been better off voting for the Liberal Party and having at least some say in government. At least the fear of consistuents that might vote them out next election might have pushed them towards some action. CPC just takes the votes here as a given. Not really sure what good the CPC is going to be able to do from the sidelines.

Are you going to tax diesel fuel the same way? What about commercial flights? Taxi and delivery services, will they pay the same for fuel? Government vehicles? Emergency vehicles?

Why not? I agree, if you want the tax to actually drive change, make it impactful. As it stands right now, it’s just an impotent cash grab. But let’s be serious, anyone that actually tried to implement something impactful they would be voted out instantly. People say they care about climate change, but very few people actually do.

When he says it on the eve of a confidence vote for his minority government where he could assure himself a majority vote by opposing it I think it is reasonable to accept it as his actual position.
He is incentivized right now to kill it.

Technically the federal version is not a tax grab. The money is rebates to citizens.

I would agree the incentives provided early on were kind of dumb, but using the money to fund public transit infrastructure or rebates on EV, solar for homes, etc would be where I'd like the funds to be directed.

I partially agree with this, but on EV's there are not enough being made to make more than a blip of an impact.
