What better center do you get by trading Monahan

Basically all the guys that made them successful last season have started the season with a sputter outside of Gaudreau, who can only do so much. I'm happy that Monahan is hitting but I wish we could have a Monahan who can dictate the tempo of play.
The defense should be fine with Kylington in over Stone, who's a great player when you want to spend a lot of time in your own end and mess up attacking rhythm from two otherwise good pairs (1st and 3rd). They need much more from Hanifin and Hamonic.
The game itself was mostly close but the Flames could not impose their will in the third, when it mattered most.
A pretty mediocre start to the season overall, but they have some time to figure it out and the broad trend has been toward improvement.

Not even mad.
Talbot didn’t play poorly but I feel Rittich was the guy to go too. Yes Talbot had a good game last outing but let’s not get into the ride the hot hand strategy we have seen crash and burn in the past. Rittich is our starter. Talbot came in and won one. Did his job. Let’s not get cute. Follow up with our starter next time as we should.
Monahan looked like he had some edge. I like that. I hope this is here to stay.
Czarnik was buzzzzzzin. Making a case to stay on that 2nd line he was extremely noticeable out there.
Lucic is quietly impressing me. He hustles back doesn’t float. Finishes his checks and he has helped produce goals so far. Some he doesn’t get credited on the score sheet for.
Good to see Reider score. Hope that’s the monkey off his back and he can put up some depth scoring for us.
Tkachuk was noticeably unnoticeable for a guy who is the spark to the fire in our engine. We needed him to make an impact on the score sheet or elsewhere.

I think Lindholm and Gaudreau have the most chemistry right now, keep them together and move Monahan to Tkachuk’s line, Backlund centering the 3rd.

I am amazed at how difficult it is for professional athletes to put forth an honest effort for 12-20 minutes a night. So frustrating. Monahan trending back towards baby poop soft. Johnny completely lost his love for hockey. If he stayed this far from contact his whole career there wouldn't be 50 people in the world that would know his name. All I feel is frustrated from lazy lazy efforts.

The Caps had 6 minutes of power play time. Ovechkin was out for 5:45 of that.
I thought it seemed like he never left the ice during the PP.

Peters gave Talbot a follow up game, after his brilliant performance in Anaheim. Can't blame him for that. And Talbot didn't play poorly. But those first two goals likely don't happen if Rittich is in net.
If the Flames weren't playing from behind for the entire 2nd and 3rd periods, it's likely a very different result.

He’s being asked to be an highly skilled and positive impact player. For most games this season, he has been a passenger.
Gaudreau has always driven the top line...not Monahan or Lindholm.
His effort, primarily compete level, is not even close to where it needs to be.
He needs to stop shaking his head at things that are out of his control and give his head a serious shake about all the things he can be better at and how much better HE should be playing.

I would trade Johnny before Monahan. I think we would get slightly more and I think Monahan could still blossom more.
But we shouldnt and almost certainly wont trade either during this season.

Disagree. Even the best goalies in the league get lit up once in a while. Rittich is a legit starter.

Rittich has 1 bad game this year. Without goaltending, no way this team is even close to 0.500.
I think that poster is just obsessed with crapping on goaltending.
The flames scored the 2 goals to tie the game after the 2 crappy goals.
Tonight is on dumb head plays right after the tying goal. I realize mangiapane just got back from injury, but I hope peters has the balls to just bench a guy for the rest of the game after a dumbass play like that

That Wilson goal. Talbot lifted his leg to let it in.
The Anaheim win buys him some slack. He may have used all of it.
