Frick using that stupid logic Bernier should have won a few seats with 1.7%. The Green only got a few percent more of votes than a lunatic (not that the Greens aren't loons themselves).

If we had popular vote the conservatives would drop 3 or 4 seats and have no chance a forming a collation with other parties, so the general would be compelled to invite the second place party to form government, then you would have something to complain about.

It was said earlier in the thread: Conservative policies appeal to 1/3 of Canadians. 2/3 of Canadians want something else. If conservatives want to win, they need to change their policies.

Can you describe an ndp/liberal platform at this time? Cause if you can't, then exactly 0% of the popular vote can be attributed to that. You can't just say 2/3 of Canadians voted for whatever may happen to come their way in a propped up government.

One option is to do away with Ridings entirely and just have ranked party lists.
A hybrid is to regionalize voting so Alberta could have 4 voting areas Calgary Edmonton, north and south which would have party lists to be divided by popular vote.

Typically you would go proportionate by region. so the greater Calgary area would get 13 or 14 seats, as a region, each party would provide a list of candidates ranks, and we would end up with the top 10 conservatives + the top person on the list from the other 3 or 4 parties.

It gives the parties allot more control over who sits.
