Monahan has been a lot stronger away from the puck this season. I think that he is being wasted being on a line with Johnny.

- Brad Treliving has not done anything to help this team since the trade with Carolina.

- Playing Sean Monahan with Johnny Gaudreau turns Monahan into a passenger, when he can be a driver.

Gaudreau needs to play with a pure finisher, someone a little dirty who makes the other team skate with their heads up. Someone content to let Johnny handle the puck.

A James Neal type.

The Flames are an incredibly boring team to watch.

The fans don’t help that either. Quiet building sometimes.

Word. Folks, if you want to sit in silence and show all energy of my dead grandmother, you can probably just watch the game at home. Nothing worse than an excellent penalty kill or extended zone time ending with radio silence from the crowd.

I don’t agree. Give us something to cheer about and the building gets loud. Mediocre team is mediocre.

Odd timing.

Can’t expect the LA crowd to get behind them.

I bet you Anaheim doesn’t either

Currently sitting 9th in the West having played more games (9) than the current teams in the wildcard spots above them. [Vancouver (7), Arizona (8)]

Bums.

I haven’t watched more than about 15 total minutes of the NHL so far this season, mostly because (as I said somewhere earlier in this thread) I’m tiring of the NHL in general. I do love coming into CP still, though, mostly for the E = NG thread because, regardless of my waning interest in the NHL/Flames, like diamonds, that thread will be forever.

Here’s an unpopular (but factual) statement about the Flames: in the Oilers decade-plus of futility, the Flames have made it out of the post-season first round exactly once, and it was with a team that really had little business even being in the playoffs. (They were super fun to watch, granted.)

Certainly, it’s hard to win in the NHL, but I guess that reality also feeds my decreased interest, especially because so many teams’ game plans are now carbon copies of one another. The Cup winner seems to come down to which team can grind out an extra two/three months after an unnecessarily long regular season. The last Flames team that even modestly demonstrated that potential ability, IMO, was the 2008-9 one that lost Regehr and Sarich to injury late in the season, and they also lost in the first round. (And I think I’m being generous by giving that roster that degree of credit.)

These things are all part of why I’m skeptical that I will see anything like the 2003-4 team again (let alone the 80s era teams). People argue that sports is unpredictable and that losing seasons is part of “fandom”, and I suppose that is true. But it sure is tough to be only content with celebrating special in-season moments, or by following players I really like(d) (hello, German Titov!) anymore. And the fact that the Flames really are no further along (in a meaningful manner) than the Oilers doesn’t help.

Anyway, enough of that #OldManRant
Off to cheer up with some good ol’ E=NG!

Hey, I agree. But the leafs fans have no problem making the dome sing when they play here. Yeah, the flames, in my opinion, don’t deserve a good loud crowd.

Bob Hartley should never have been fired as the Flames coach. He was the one coach that could get the most from his players. "Always earned and never given" needs to be brought back and used with this current edition of the Flames.

The Saddledome has always been called the library when it comes to fan noise. The place was always quiet during the 80's when the Flames were battling with the Oilers.

If the Flames are well out of a playoff spot this year I think it will be time to shop Johnny. He is a talented kid but not the player that the Flames need in order to be a successful team. They should be able to get a good return for Johnny and build a new team without him. Johnny will certainly continue to flourish on pretty much any team that he goes to.

Hire him as a special motivational coach and have Peters handle the X and Os.

The design of the building plays into this. It is so spread out. Sitting in the second bowl of rogers in Edmonton you're like 2x closer to the other side of the arena than when you sit 2nd bowl in the saddledome.

BTW I do not recommend sitting 2nd bowl in edmonton. It is very steep. You cannot lean forward at all without blocking out the view of those behind you.
